What are some of your favorite home made challenges? I'm talking about things not intended or programed into the game, but playing by following a set of fan made rules. I'll give a few examples.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time - beat the game with only 3 hearts
Final Fantasy - beat the game with 4 white mages
Resident Evil - beat the game with only the knife
Final Fantasy 6 - beat the final boss as 4 imps
Final Fantasy 7 - beat the game with no materia or accessories with starting equipment
Final Fantasy 10 - beat the game without touching the sphere grid


Some challenges seem rather tedious and not a lot of fun, but there is some good ones to prolong the life of some of your favorite games. What are some more examples?

Beating Starcraft 2 on hardest difficulty without using hotkey's, its hard

Well now that you mention it I'm actually playing most modern games without using upgrade points and stronger weapons because shit is just so damn casual.

Ass Creed, Human Revolution, Saints Row, Mass Effect, Skyrim,... ok granted with Skyrim the reason is more that horrific UI.

This did dead space 1 and 2 with only the plasma cutter on my first playthrough of both. Recently beat singularity while only using guns.

Also : final fantasy 1 using only fighters and another one using only black mages
Final fantasy 7: initial weapons only
Final fantasy 8: initial weapons only ( not that it makes that much a difference)
Final fantasy 13 : no upgrading ANYTHING
Legend of legaia : no weapons at all
And my personal favorite . SMT: Nocturne : Hard mode . Nuff said.

My favorite was the 5star circut challenge in GTA:San Andreas. Start in Los Santos, provoke a 5 star wanted level, and maintain it in a run thru Angel Pines, San Feirro, Las Venturas, Vinewood, and back to Los Santos. No cheats obviously.

For the record, beating Final Fantasy with 4 white mages isn't necessarily a home-made challenge seeing as how many FF fans have heard of and tried it.

As for a personal challenge: Beat FFT without using any main characters other than Ramza (except when they're in a battle as a "guest"). So no Agrias, no TG Cid, no one except Ramza and generic units. For a larger challenge: use only squires and chemists with no side-abilities from other jobs (so no secondary skill set, no movement, counter, or support abilities from other classes).
