"I'll take us to Cottonwood and we can take the raft to our destination. I will explain the situation to Aurelius of Phoenix and watch that smug bastard steam as I walk NCR soldiers through his camp. That teach him to keep his damn mouth shut."

Marcus couldn't hep but smile at the idea of Aurelius being disgraced like that in front of his soldiers. He had been trying to get ahead of Marcus politically ever since Marcus got transferred here from Wyoming 4 months ago. Marcus had spent most of that time either at Cottenwood Cove or in The Fort. Now he had the opportunity to put Aurelius in his place.

Ethan turned his head back while walking on the road, "Oh, and how will you get the lot of us across the river, not to mention two NCR officers? You legionaries aren't exactly kind to people who aren't members of your little cult. I suspect getting into the fort will be easy, getting out will be another thing entirely. And I have no intention on being used for your power plays"

"What the robot says is true. We need to retrieve several items for Mr. House. This first one was stolen by some man who ended up dead at the hands of Deathclaws. He apparently needs us to retrieve it for him. Can't trust a robot to do a man's job," Lucius replied to the Centurion.

Lucius then turned to the wastelander, "Me and Marcus will proceed into the camp first and explain the situation. Then you will be able to pass through unharrassed. This will be all the easier with a decorated warrior such as Marcus with me."

Night Owl looked over at Lucius, questioning the plan.

"The others are not officers of the NCR, the Legion will not enjoy a ranger waltzing through, are you sure I should not meet Phoenix to assure him this is not NCR business? Will he take your word on the matter?"

"Well as I explained earlier, I would imagine that whoever is in charge of the camp we enter will like to meet some of you personally at least, but first we must be sure you aren't shot on sight or crucified, being Dissolutes and Profligates. As for being believed, I think that Marcus's backing my words will be sufficient. It will be obvious that we are doing the will of Caesar and no proper member of the Legion would question that," Lucius responded with confidence.

Night Owl thought It over and decided it probably was the best course of action to let the scout and the Centurion announce their presence before he set foot in the camp, Legion tended to react poorly to the presence of rangers, especially one as well known as himself.

"Fair enough, I'll be waiting here outside the camp if I'm requested."

"If you can offer me assurance that I won't find myself nailed to a fucking piece of wood before I make it out of the camp, you've given me no reason to doubt your word so far. I guess, as it stands we have little choice, crossing the Colorado would be difficult enough without help, regardless of who gives it."

"You're right there, it's hard enough for a single trained individual to get across unseen and even after that you'd have trouble avoid the patrols, this will be much easier if we can get clearance."

Alex remained silent through out this and intended to keep it that way, He instead tinkered with his rifle and polished his knife.

"Lucius and I will take care of this. Phoenix may be a fool, but he can't deny the words of a higher Centurion that are supported by a second source. and even if he dose try to kill us all, take solace in the fact that he won't survive the attempt."

"Well, you will be seen in a better light than the NCR profligates. Your Brotherhood of Steel may not be seen with much respect in the Legion, but you are mainly Dissolutes to us, so we would not kill you on sight."

Night Owl laughed.

"Does my status as a ranger get me crucified or sent the arena by default or do I have to prove myself more by slaugtering mindless pawns first? I'd like to think I'm famous enough to get special treatment."

"Does my status as a ranger get me crucified or sent the arena by default or do I have to prove myself more by slaugtering mindless pawns first? I'd like to think I'm famous enough to get special treatment."

Ethan turned to the ranger, "Well, now's as good a time as any to find out, We've made it to Cottonwood cove. You legionaries had better be able to hold to your boasts."

As the group walked over the ridge they were greeted by the sight of men and women tied to a series of crosses, lining the road like sadistic light posts. The sounds of their moans caused a look of satisfaction to cross the eyes of the Legionary members of the team, and a look of disgust crossed the eyes of the NCR members.

A guard approached the team, but on seeing Marcus and Lucius they were allowed to pass, although he let his dog growl menacingly at them and watched their backs as they proceeded towards the camp.

As they reached the camp an impressive figure walked over to the group. Aurelius of Phoenix. He raised his hand to Marcus and Lucius, "Ave Caesar. Marcus, explain your actions, bringing dissolutes and profligates among the legion."

"Caesar has sent Scout Lucius and I on a mission to gain favor with Mr.House. We need to use the raft to get to our destination"

Aurelius laughed loudly before saying, "No. None of our enemies will pass through my camp, for all I know they are holding you hostage and forcing you to say those things. MEN TO ARMS!"

Suddenly 10 Legion soldiers surrounded the group with their weapons at the ready.

"STAND DOWN!" Marcus yelled.
"BELAY THAT!" Aurelius barked in return.
"I AM A CENTURION AND I AM UNDER ORDERS FROM CAESAR HIMSELF, NOW STAND DOWN OR I WILL HAVE YOU ALL CRUCIFIED!"

The Legionaries were looking back and forth at each other unsure what to do, the tension was rising to a boiling point.

"You do not give my men orders Marcus-"
"And YOU are NEVER to pretend you are my equal Aurelius! Now STAND. DOWN."

The men lowered their weapons and returned to their posts.

"Now then," Marcus said to his group, "Get on the raft."

"Not so fast Marcus!" Aurelius called out.

"What now Aurelius?"

"Not even you can do something like this without Caesar's word. We will take the matter to him."

Marcus had mixed feelings about this. On one hand he liked the idea of embarrassing Aurelius in front of Caesar, but he wasn't sure that even with his title he could get NCR troops into The Fort. But if they surrendered thier weapons then it could work.

"Alright, lets go to The Fort." Then he ushered them over to the dock, with Aurelius close behind.

For you members who aren't online at the moment, We may have you perform some minor actions, in order to efficiently move the story forward. Since I don't believe in making people do extreme actions without their consent, we'll have your dialogue be little more than grunts, and play off the assumption that the NCR members don't care for the Legion.

This was posted earlier as a placeholder, But I think it's worth keeping. Yeah, that;s the basic idea of controlling the actions of other peoples characters, don't give them dialogue. Don't do anything to establish your character as the better/tougher man. Don't have them do complicated actions. And be very prepared to edit your post if they contact you.

Ethan chuckled a bit under his breath as they walked onto the dock, "Anybody, want to turn back, last chance. Roman McPole-up-his-ass probably doesn't seem like he wants us to live long enough to leave the fort." A nearby Legionary hit him with the but of his rifle, "Silence dissolute, you're lucky you're not dead, you will not talk to a Centurion like that."

Ethan stopped in his tracks, spun and hit the legionary in the face, his body spun as he was knocked off his feet. and landed on his chest, unconscious. At this act of aggression, every legionary nearby drew their weapons. Ethan looked around, cracked his knuckles and kept walking, running through his mind the lessons he learned while surviving on the waste, Don't let them see you sweat. Don't let them see you sweat.
