This disgusts me.

How do you guys feel about this? Any idea of what we can do to make this shit better?
Because, under the law, robbing a bank period probably has a minimum of 15 years

On the other hand, tax evasion has a fine OR a maximum 5 year incarceration or a combination of both. I'm not sure what type of fraud he committed but i would think it would have similar punishments.

You see, the law is the law and applies to everyone. Just because a person is poor or had good reasons to break the law doesn't mean he is not punished as harshly by it. The law applies the same to everyone, not just people who can afford it.
He wasn't convicted of tax evasion. He was convicted of fraud. A similar case is being prosecuted in the same state, and the prosecutor is seeking a 385-year sentence. You can read about it <link=http://www.wavy.com/dpp/news/virginia/Farkas-may-face-life-sentence-for-fraud>here
Thanks for that. Well anyways I guess maybe he cooperated and helped out the prosecutors or something. Cause no way would they settle for 6 years unless he was cooperative or there's a maximum sentence. I just don't know enough about it
Well, perhaps next time you won't be so lax, man. (ba dum tish)

This may not be as cruel as people are thinking.

He is going to prison yes but it may be possible that the judge sent him there on such a sentance on sympathy.

I had a Local Magistrate as a Teacher in college he stated once how he had a hearing where a homeless man would commit a minor crime every Christmas and he would sent him to prison over the Christmas holiday, Why do this? The man was committing the crime because he wanted to go to prison where he had shelter and food available and the Magistrate obliged him so he didn't starve over Christmas.

It may be a similar circumstance he may be going to prison but for 15 years he is going to have clean clothes, shelter, food and medical care that he wouldn't have living on the street.

There are two sides to every story and sometimes sending a man to prison is a mercy that looks like a curse.
Iiiiiinteresting. I did think, when I read it, at least he would have food and shelter in prison but I didn't think it could be a strategic sentence. Wow, interesting fact, thanks

Well. Atleast he gets off the street to a place where he is ensured a meal a day and a roof on top of he head, shit life is still a life.

Still extremely sickening, sometimes I wonder what is up with American legal system but since I do not know the poor mans history I can not do a good statement about this.

Worst thing is that the homeless man wanted to make ammends and the CEO most likely would do it again in a heartbeat.

Anyone saying "the homeless guy has food and shelter now!" is missing the point. That doesn't make this any less disgusting if this is true, and people shouldn't have to rob banks to get those things.

As for the possibility it's a three strikes thing, three strikes laws are vile in and of themselves.

I kid, thats really screwed up, if you put it in comparison, the CEO should be getting....well, a few thousand years. The homeless guy DID rob a bank, but he took about enough money to fill a Hummer's gas tank.
Only quoting to say your avatar is an appropriate image for Paul R. Allen. OK yes stealing from a bank is wrong, but it was only £100 and he did give himself up. That other guy should at least get life.

£100 = 15 years

£3,000,000 = The average lifespan of 1,000 Asari Matriarchs

For some good karma though, we did sentence Bernie Madoff to a 150 years in prison.
One 150-yr term or 150 simultaneous one-yr terms, though?

The only comfort I take from this is that no alien race, upon examining our civilisation, would come anywhere near us. That, or they'd erase us ASAP.

Wonder what would happen if they had to share a jail cell together?
