Homophobia, Mods, And One Step Too Far

How terrible. I wish things could turn out different for her, but the adversity she feels is the product of social forces far beyond her control. It's very unfortunate, but I applaud her for not stooping to their level. Perhaps she can find a forum that would be more excepting of her art elsewhere. I'm sure that there are other communities that would appreciate carefully detailed 3D work. I hope things turn out better for her soon.

I am very much in-tune with the Elder Scrolls modding community, so I know all about this harassment (but I thought this was an incident that occurred a few years ago?). Alienslof has always dealt with this kind of treatment, and she has always handled it well because she's pretty much a grown woman. I never felt any kind of negative attitude towards her male body-related work because I sorta justified it due to the fact that she was a woman and would naturally be attracted to the male figure. No big surprise there.
Anything beast race-related also gets a lot of negative feedback. A lot of submissions featuring Khajiit or Argonian nudity or whatever always got comments on the line of "furfag" or something similar. The mods these days are extremely vigilant, though. Those comments usually get deleted right away.
What can I say? Different floats for different boats.

Slof is extremly talented. Do you know how hard any kind of 3D modeling is? I'm not much for artistic "crap" mind you, but I hope she ignores them. Really the fact that it's a women behind the name never bothers me, nor even elicits any response from me. I'm 26, and sexism is stupid to me. Now, I wouldn't insist that nude women are perfectly exceptable, and nude men aren't (Though I personally would rather deal with the former). Women play games too (Really?! Prove it!) and I hope she gives them less consideration than they deserve, as any one in the modding community needs to do, because there will always be a jerk or 2(thousand) that can't be bothered to not download a mod they find out of sync with their views. Which is why I never released any of my Oblivion mods, and only a couple Fallout 3 mods. Just give support where you can, and never overdo it. Women hate being treated overly nice (Or so they claim) or overly bad because they are women, but don't ask me there, I'm a computer nerd, thus I have little experience with women.

If these guys download them and get aroused then its them, not the mods, that are gay. However I considered installing some of her more tame mods just for the authentic feel but ya, I could not find any without them looking like a extra sword jammed in their pants.

Leg-sized penii to match the 3 meter radius boobs that the female mods have. I would imagine that most of the harassment came from people who assumed she was male. Not that that is an excuse. I'm not a fan of seeing someone else's wank, but I'm not going to bother someone, male or female, who makes mods that sport outrageous wanks. The whole situation is just shit.

On a slightly more somber note, to society, the lines are blurry between artistic expression and art detailing the beauty of the human form, and things of a perverse nature. Such a shame to see her work gone...

I couldn't help but think about Superbad and the kid that drew all different kinds of penises when I read through this thread though. Such an atrocious movie, yet some of those drawings were downright hysterical.

So a bunch of kids harassed someone for making nude models.... there are assholes in this world, and everyone has to deal with them.
The fact is that the gaming community is male dominated, and homophobia is something common in any male population, especially amongst kids.

Exactly. Everyone that has ever been on the internet, or even been outside with other people, has been bullied. Everyone here has probably been called gay at some point. I'm sure she got this sort of feedback from her first mod, and I'm sure that this isn't the only reason she quit.

Well to refine my point more I would have to agree. The way you implement it (I can't think of a better word) would give it the artistic merit, buy yes just sticking a penis, and some breasts is uncalled for.

sorry to hear a great Modder retired, the idea that the male body isent Allowed to be shown, but you can mod cherry from fallout 3 into a grapefruit sized chested stripper, seems very Wrong to me, Especially when they Are calling a Woman, who is making male body skin Mods, gay seems stupid. and Girly? well Duh... thats to be Expected

As far as I understand, these weren't vanilla models which were being "adulterated". If I'm not mistaken, they were some of the Better Bodies revamps; smoother, "prettier", all around nicer, or so I've been told. Generally speaking, they're easier on the eyes naked than what Bethesda offers.

I never used any of Alienslof's work, but it's a shame that the vocal, homophobic asswipes forced her to quit.

I find this whole thing to be a meh. I guess it's because I'm not really intouch with the modding community. Heck I think the only games I really modded Was Neverwinter nights and Impossible creatures.

But the whole "Ah it's a pingas, run for your lifes!" Is just wow. Nudity can be artistic. Nudity doesn't equal sex. (speaking..ranting to people in general) Take your puritian morals and shove it. Aww, that means no more Better Bodies! Craaaaap...and just when I was thinking of reinstalling Morrowind.

IIRC, she(!!) even included several options during the installation of the mod. One put permanent underwear on everybody, another put permanent underwear on guys only and removed any hair from the females (she derisively called this the "peanut gallery" option), and the third was just anatomically correct all around.

When you have a damned option to not look at them, just STFU. Seriously. Goddamn.
