Yeah I was surprised to learn that he had such marketing. Among other things he has had 2 point and click adventure games made off the diskworld series. Of course I live in the american mid-west, the place with more livestock than people, so i'm not to surprised I never heard of his stuff.

Any of the ones about the Watch are pure gold. Especially Night Watch.

Although I do really like Moist von Lipwig as a character as well. I really need to get
around to reading Making Money.

@OP: is your avatar a reference to the Librarian?

Great, witty author. Not my favourite by any means, but for an entertaining, humourous insight you can't go wrong. Nightwatch is the book I like the most by him, but I'm a sucker for anything involving time travel - or Vimes for that matter. Great shame about his disease (how did you only hear about it recently Eric the Orange?), theres nothing near enough writers like him around.

My favourite Discworld book?! Are you crazy?! That's too damn hard...

If pushed, I could probably narrow it down to Guards! Guards!, Hogfather, Mort and Reaper Man.

Yeah, I suck at choosing favourites, especially in the Discworld series.

Equally difficult is choosing my favourite Character, but I'm inclined to name Mort as my favourite, even above Death, Rincewind and Sam Vimes, despite the awesome the previous embody.

First Discworld novel was Colour of Magic, my brother lent it me.

My first Discworld book was Reaper Man, I bought it during a holiday on Malta and totally loved it. I continued to buy his books via amazon.co.uk (even though I'm German I wanted the originals, because I noticed many jokes get lost during translation).
So, in a way, he helped me learn the English language.

I'm very sad to hear he's so sick. He brought a lot of joy to a lot of people, myself included.

Don't mislead people. It's not a deadly disease, it's just (and a bit more than) Alzheimer. And his condition is has improved a bit.

My favorite book would be... Oh, crap. Can't I say that I just love all of the Watch books, probably Jingo the most. Of course, I also love The Unseen University books, too. Especially The Last Continent.

And I'm saying that with great sadness, because my favorite character (except for Mustrum Ridcully and Detritus) is Death. He's too awesome. HOW MORE AWESOME YOU CAN BE THAN TALKING LIKE THAT. You can't, face it.

I think that... if sir Terry Pratchett dies, I will be mourning his death for at least a week... His art really made my life happier.

I love Pratchett ... I read every Discworld book, most of them serveral times. My favourite one is "The Nightwatch" (I hope thats the correct english title) ... I loved the dark humor in that one.

To me Pratchett has the smartest, sharpest humor out there. His books are the only one I found myself laughing out loud while reading.

I hope, dispite his condition, he will be able to give us more of his books for a long time.

[edit:]
When it comes to favourite charakters ... Vimes and Death for sure.

Hmmm...

First book: Color of Magic, though I didn't know it was in a series until much later.

Favorite book: Going Postal, the Truth, or Monstrous Regiment.

Favorite character(s): Moist von Lipwig (confidence tricksters just make my day), Adora Belle Dearheart (I don't know how a woman like her survived high school with that name. On the other hand, it would explain a lot of things...), Lord Vetinari (both the old Patrician and the young rebellious Assassin), Leonard of Quirm (Leonardo da Vinci in Discworld, hilarity ensues), DEATH, Cohen the Barbarian (the very very OLD barbarian), Twoflower the tourist, Rincewind the cowardly wizard, Archchancellor Ridcully, Granny Weatherwax, Nanna Ogg, Just about every character ever written into the Discworld universe I have loved equally. If Detritus were to force me to answer, he would have to kill me 'cause I honestly can't choose.

Not for the next ~6-12 years.
I thought the next discworld book (maybe the one after) was meant to be his last? He's already stated that his disease is starting to have an impact on his work, and I'm sure he won't allow himself to run his series into the ground.

Best Character: The one and only Sam Vines
So great you got his name wrong? :p viMes. (I'm joking, not having a go)

Best book- probably Good Omens (not discworld, but hey :D), possibly Carpe Juglar or Thief of Time

Best character- So many to choose from... Detritus, Foul Ole Ron or Angua I think.

Hmm, that's a shame.

Well, at least let's hope that he'll go out in a great glory.

There's a local theatre that performs Discworld books. My first introduction to Terry Pratchett's work was a live theatre performance of Mort.

Admittedly, I haven't read many of his books but the theatrical performances have a huge following, showing the scope that this man's imagination attracts.

As for my favorite book... having a hard time picking a single one. Small Gods, Night Watch, Theif of Time, ect. There all so good.

Well I guess it's like a 40 way tie for first, with a few seconds that I didin't like quite as much.
