"assuming they can fight."

Lucia just snickered at that. "You just keep your boys out of my way. I'm not a baby sitter" She said before lesierly following the group. If he was gonna talk shit, he gonna have to back it up.

"These are men, and I'm glad you clarified your occupation for us"
The officer rebutted, earning the grins of a few of his subordinates. The party crossed the bridge, the floor was stone, but the walls and ceiling were glass panes. Overlooking the city they could see billowing clouds of smoke dotting the island, and a large fire that was enveloping the southwest of the metropolis, with another soldier explaining the situation to Gi. "...and with the Southern Bridge destroyed, the locals are flocking north. They don't even know the northern two bridges are occupied." he then pointed out to the distant waterfront. "They're landing an occupying force there, and scouts say there's another fleet ready to embark at the mouth of the Bay. We're trying to rally the fleet but..."
"But they won't arrive on time." the officer interjected.
They journeyed into another Tower, the room lined with pink dyed fur along the walls, with soft candles keeping the lighting dim.
Their leader nodded and two cloaked guards shunted the walls of the bridge. There was a piercing noise followed by billowing dust, and the bridge lurched violently from the wall, falling down the chasm between the two skyscrapers, imploding on the ground far below.

With that, the officer nodded his head and began up some steps to their immediate left. "So, who are these two you've picked up? A non-babysitter, and aeyya... merchant?" he asked, eyeing Alex for a moment, before continuing up the marble steps.

------------

Nettil surveyed the situation, with the mage to their back routed, and the other poised for defeat, she then took a quick look at Dalrel, lifting him by the shoulder to his feet.
She then noticed Kyras was..... not worth touching, and hesitantly checked near him for blood or burns, but then she heard a familiar voice call to her.

"Oh, hi--- Where's the rest?! Everyone sort of got... separated."

What. Are. They. Doing. Outside. Of. The. Towers. Nettil thought, gritting her teeth at what else they could have done unsupervised.
Separated?!
Nevertheless, she put that to the back of her mind, drawing her attention to the killers in close proximity to Des.
"We'll come down, and address this under safer conditions!" She bellowed, pointing down at the Lightning mage near Des, before moving away from the edge of the roof.

"We'll come down, and address this under safer conditions!"

"Oh, ehm..." Des looked towards the lightning mage. How on earth was he going to deal with that?

I should try something. But... I don't want to.

Des frowned, and stepped away. The lightning was bad news, and while he had seen the others do similar things, he hadn't actually tried to fight someone who could electrocute someone with their hands.

I'll just let the others deal with it.

He thought, as he stepped away from the mage and over to Kes. If anything was about to happen to her, he would try to protect her, but otherwise it really wasn't his job to fight.

"Until they prove otherwise, boys" Lucia said. She thought for a moment on her next words, much as she despised the place anymore, she figured she was gonna have to pull rank on this asshole. "And that's Captain, as in Captain Lucia Draken, 5th Battalion, Former CO of Platoon D, 'Fire Seal' of the Holy Alonian Dragon Slaying Armed Forces." She said, mostly straight, till she got to the 'Holy Alonian' part, that, she almost sound like she was choking on the way she was forcing it out.

Kes wasn't quite sure what was going on. How had they offended the random mages? Either way, it seemed like they were under threat. Zuria began laying down some arrows while Des made contact with the other group (who turned out to be some of the rest of THEIR group, suggesting the cause of the problems was said other part of the group). All the while, Kes readied herself for when the group got in range. After all, there was no need to close the distance when they seemed more than willing to do it for her. Zuria began striking at the mages once the gap had been closed and Des took up a defensive position in front of her. She didn't quite understand why Des thought it was necessary, but it was a brave act and she couldn't fault him his courage. Maybe his sense, but not his courage. Still, she'd have to thank him when it was over

Now that the mages were closer, Kes made her move. Jumping forward with surprising speed, Kes slammed her fist into the nearest mage with all her might. Adrenaline poured into her veins and instincts kicked in. The rest was a flash of flesh, blood, and screams.

"And that's Captain, as in Captain Lucia Draken, 5th Battalion, Former CO of Platoon D, 'Fire Seal' of the Alonian Dragon Slaying Armed Forces."
The blond leader scoffed, "Uh hoh, this one has teeth. What kind of dragons were they? And Alonia? I assume you're a Walker then..."

They clambered up the staircase and moved towards a spotless ballroom that had rare ornaments and crystals dangling about a metre from a ceiling that was itself taller than three men stacked on each other's shoulders.
"Dragons? You mean like to the south-east?" Piped up a young soldier at the back of the cohort. "One of the lords said Dragonriders from the isles would be here in a few hou-" Raj threw his hand in front of him "Don't engage her." he warned.

The officer grinned at his soldier's curiosity, then returned to his new associates, "And what of this one?" he said, poking his finger towards Alex. "Is he a mute? Must be quite a challenge selling goods when you refuse to speak." He said, continuing with the Merchant assumption.

"Uh hoh, this one has teeth. What kind of dragons were they? And Alonia? I assume you're a Walker then..."

"The smallest where, well, like me. Alonia has a long standing war going with cultist how worship one of the Elder Dragons, Chernobog the Betrayer and father of the Black Dragons of my world, as a god. So 'normal' Dragons that start at about 5 meters tall at the shoulder, going to about 20 meters tall at the shoulder, and more 'human sized' ones like my self." She replied mater of factly "And before you ask why I'm not there anymore, Alonia views Dragons of all sizes the way every one else views demons. IE 'Kill them all on sight', even the Dragons from other clans who aren't 'evil' like like Jormungund, Lord of the Seas and father of Sea Dragons, Or Lumina Mother of the Sliver White Dragons, a clan generally about killing the undead." Lucia explained.

"So when I ended up like this" motioning to her self "during a mission to halt the plans of a cultist cell, you can only imagine just how quickly people turned on me."

Trahaearn blinked.

He had just watched the other elf of the group set himself on fire, then throw himself off the roof and onto the enemy. A valid strategy, if one wanted didn't want to get up after the fight. Sadly, back on Trahaearn's home Horizon, many a youth had challeneged a vicious beast hoping to walk back to camp with prestige and supplies but had ended up fighting the beast to the death, lest retreating led said beast back to the camp, where mothers and younglings would be at risk.

Nevertheless, Trahaearn didn't question why the elf had chosen to use the strategy of a reckless youth. Something about a lightning mage being nearby. Trahaearn gunted as he used the strength of the grafted arm to vault over to the stunned lightning mage and snapped their neck with neck using the strength of both arms. Afterwards, he gave a look to the man who was just standing there. This wasn't any place for bystanders.

"Time to split, wouldn't ya say?" Trahaearn bellowed.

Nettil grinned at the group's confidence, placing the liberal amounts of floating shards into a pocket, and bending a segment of the roof into a walkway towards the ground far below.

She and Trahaearn were the first down, with Nettil immediately assessing the dead bandits along with Des, Kes and Zuria.
She then began her flurry of questions "Why.... are you three here? Where's Alex? The other one? Did Sal let you wander around the city?" She didn't even want to know how the fire began.
"As soon as you are done we can go and get the others, alright?" pointing towards a large archway that signalled them entering a new portion of the city.

Dalrel was closely behind, for the first time being able to think clearly since their fight in the Atrium.
He came to the realisation that because his debt was written off, he owed this woman nothing, and something the snow elf mentioned...
"Oh, and the body must have been one of your employees, glad to see you're finally taking responsibility."
She's done this before, he thought.

As the two injured members, him and Kyras were somewhat forced to accompany one another. He limped over to him, "I don't think we should trust Nettil." He warned, pointing forward as she continued to berrate the others. "She's sent people down there to die before, and if there's a risk, I'm not sure she's work to save us..."

------------

The Snow Elf looked at the situation glumly, the bridge was severed, and their tower continued to shake.
Dead soldiers' bodies littered the floor and they failed to take a single guard with them.
She turned herself around and lifted her singed dress casually over the corpses, motioning down the corridor. "We'll need to move down two floors, then use the aqueduct to reach that Tower." She said angrily, practically blasting the nearest door open with her ice magic. "You could have just peeled your heavy armour off and flown, but that would have made too much sense now, wouldn't it?"

"Time to split, wouldn't ya say?"

Des wasn't sure who it was aimed at, or why, but he tilted his head.

"What?" he asked, confused. "I'm not sure I get it," he replied. Instead of waiting for an explainasion, he walked over to Kes, who had run past him and helped taking out the mages.

"Are you fine?" he asked, fussing over her worriedly. Even if she was fine, he thought he was allowed to fuss a little. She had mentioned before that she had some minor wounds, and he looked her over. "Do you have some cuts? Do you want me to make them feel good?"

"Why.... are you three here? Where's Alex? The other one? Did Sal let you wander around the city? As soon as you are done we can go and get the others, alright?"

Not taking his eyes off Kes, Des spoke, listing up the answers to each question.

"We promised to meet up, but I'm not sure why we're exactly here. However, what we did was important. I think the others are still in the tower, only..." he glanced towards what he thought was the direction. The towers didn't exactly look quite right.

"I'm not sure how well that went. And I don't know if Sal allowed it, but we're not infants," he complained. It did make him a tad annoyed that she had to say it like that, even if she was a woman. Sure, he could be dense. And a bit easily distracted. However, he was still a demon, and he knew how to take care of himself. Besides, Kes and Zuria could handle themselves too, even better in combat.

"We didn't need a baby sitter, and especially not a mortal one younger than me by hundreds of years."

Des realized that would be most people, but that didn't matter. Being told to not wander off was one thing, to have to ask for permission to walk around was a completely different one. He addressed Kes another time, and Zuria as well.

"Right Kes? Right Zuria? We've managed fine."

"Is he a mute? Must be quite a challenge selling goods when you refuse to speak."

"Apologies, I was lost in thought," Alex said, of half a mind to simply stay silent in order to screw with the man "my profession is that of Inquisitor, which leaves me sadly unable to provide you with the hair growth and virility tonics you so clearly require."

He grinned as he spoke, various questions turning over in his mind. As far as he was concerned this remained quite emphatically not his fight, politics that were not involving his own empire were not his cause unless they involved the Tall man or whatever monsters he'd conjured up, which didn't seem likely on a horizon where they rode dragons or wielded fire magic.

"Tell me, do you have any idea who our assailants are?" he asked "who we're fighting and what reason they have for this attack? If they wish the empress dead then knowing why might help us keep her safe."

"We didn't need a baby sitter, and especially not a mortal one younger than me by hundreds of years."
"It's not that you're infantile." Nettil scoffed, "It's that none of you know this city the way me or Sal do, and judging by the circumstances it would've probably been for the best."

""I only nearly died which is better than more than a few days I've had. So not so bad. Not without you two, Is there a next place if you aren't tired of my face?"
Nettil glared at that, knowing that Zuria's going to want more of that...
"It sounds like one of the invaders has a vendetta against you. Does an angry Snow Elf ***** ring any bells?" She looked around, as the fire encroached closer and the sky was changing colour, gently signifying that it was late afternoon.
"Now, we need to go to the towers, now." She stated, moving towards the archway down the street. "You can explain what else you got up to as we walk."

------------

"Apologies, I was lost in thought, my profession is that of Inquisitor, which leaves me sadly unable to provide you with the hair growth and virility tonics you so clearly require."
At that the officer laughed. "Good to see you have some wit, shame it took you several floors to formulate it." He said, brushing back his wavy hair.

"Tell me, do you have any idea who our assailants are? Who we're fighting and what reason they have for this attack? If they wish the empress dead then knowing why might help us keep her safe."
"Well, they're Snow Elves, so most likely from the north. Why though? I do not know. When we reach the Empress she'll explain. That is where our remaining intel being consolidated....."

And sure enough, after another few flights of stairs, and a cavalcade of decadence, the group arrived at a lobby.
After the fiftieth floor, the ceilings were becoming smaller, but still as ornate. The dimensions thinned, with there being less rooms on each floor, with each one becoming smaller and smaller. By the time they had arrived, there were two windows on opposite walls, which gave way to a panorama of the city. The ceiling was still quite high, but only because at the end of the lobby was a final set of wooden steps up to what could only be assumed as the Empress' private quarters.
Little more than a dozen dignitaries and their assistants sat by the walls for refuge, while high ranking generals waited at the foot of the steps with information for their leader.
Raj took the opportunity to rush back to the armory area, procuring a strange staff with a pointed spear-like end, and a gem at the opposite tip.

After a few short moments, she arrived, accompanied by her small child ward, and three small pods in her pale bony hands.
"Oh, your here!" she exclaimed happily, moving past her subordinates to clasp her hands at Gi and Raj, trying to compose herself.
"After what I heard about....down there- Anyway, I see you brought a few companions. Glad to see my Horizon Walker made it out, and who's this?" She said, ignoring more pressing issues to nod at the dragon lady. "Another ally?"

As the battle came to a close, Kes couldn't help but notice how easy it had been, She'd faced a greater chalenge from the hired goons protecting slaves than the mages. Once she'd finished shaking the blood from her hands, she turned to where the others had gathered. There, she almost immediately was under the scrutiny of Des. She wasn't opposed to his fussing, but she found it odd. Zuria was in much worse shape than she and she suspected the other half of the group was in similar mixed health. Regardless, she nodded at his questions and pointed at a few small gashes on her ams and legs and one on her side that she'd bandaged up after the fight with the slavers. They were minor in the extreme and the bleeding had already stopped. "Like I said; minor."

A moment later, she looked at the demon curiously and added "What can you do for wounds?" She wasn't aware he had any kind of healing knowledge or skill. Maybe it was a demon thing.

As the conversation moved to the topic of Snow Elves, Kes shook her head. "The only elf we encountered was the one who died in the escape from Liem,"

"Like I said; minor."

"It's still wounds," he commented. "And I'm sure they still hurt a little, soo..." he trailed off, as she continued.

"What can you do for wounds?"

"Not a whole lot," he admitted. "I can't make them go away, if that's what you're asking. But I can make them feel a lot better, I can give it a kiss and your whole body will be filled with pleasure for some time, and then you won't think about the pain anymore." He smiled as he spoke.

"Do you want me to show you?"

"It sounds like one of the invaders has a vendetta against you. Does an angry Snow Elf ***** ring any bells?"

"No," Des replied, frowning. "I don't know what a Snow Elf is, but you really shouldn't use the word *****. It's rude," he said. Women shouldn't be calling each other names, the same way men shouldn't be calling women names. Actually, no one should be calling anyone names, apart from their own, or flattering ones, like "belle" or "cutie".

Some of them might not like it, though.

But it was better than calling them something as crude as that!

"The only elf we encountered was the one who died in the escape from Liem,"

"Oh. She was an elf?" Des asked, as the guilt from back then started coming back. He'd forgotten her fairly quickly, but now he was sad. Not as sad as he could have been, but sad enough to look sad.

"She died, though. I don't think she'd be here. Also... why do we need to go to the towers?"

Lucia ponder that question "Huh, I suppose I am." She said with a bit of a verbal shrug. "Lucia Draken, I am one of the 'Walkers the one name Nettil hired and brought to the towers for a job before the attack started." Lucia said, this time in a much more formal tone and stance and with a slight bow toward the Empress.

Nettil walked as the buffet of conversation starters trailed behind her. Beginning with Zuria.
"Wait we're being invaded, that would explain a few things. But no I was stabbed by a slave myself.
Wonder what happened to the dealer, I said he'd be safe."

"Of course its an invasion, well, more like an occupation at this point. The sacking and empty destroyed buildings didn't give you a hint?" She pondered how and why Zuria was stabbed, and who the dealer was, but explaining the complexities of the seven trade zones of Holem may have driven Nettil insane.
Also, because Kes and Des had their share of answers.
"The only elf we encountered was the one who died in the escape from Liem,"
"She died, though. I don't think she'd be here.
Kes and Des explained, and at that Dalrel pipped up from behind. "She's alive. Specialized in Ice magic." He then ran a hand on an invisible line along his belly, flinching while he hobbled. "There's a large scar where a gash from the pike is. You can't miss it."

"Also... why do we need to go to the towers?" Des added, and at that Nettil sighed. "Do you want to see your friends alive? Because if they are, we need to locate them, and get off the island." She stated bluntly, realising that if she was to maintain her composure, she'd need to avoid thinking of Sal, and pushed him to the back of her mind.
They continued down the street, and past other obsticles like collapsed archways and buildings, before turning onto a now delapidated main street, seemingly empty.

------------

"Lucia Draken, I am one of the 'Walkers the one name Nettil hired and brought to the towers for a job before the attack started."
The Empress smiled and clapped her hands together again, her rings clinging gently.

"Nett-ill?" She tutted,
"A nettle is a plant considered plain by some, ugly by most, that will sting if you get too close, and one that requires swift treatment as a counterweight-- like a cool doc leaf...." she then smiled, apologizing for her tangent.
"Anyway, glad to see someone who knows their courtesies. Now." She held out one of the small pods, slipping the other two into one of her many pockets.
"These are called Transport Shells. They are boiled dual seeds from some exceedingly rare and exotic plant in The Beastlands. Crack one, both it and the pod it grew with will burst open, creating a small portal for a few short moments." She smiled, and stared at the strange brown seed.

"Please, your Excellence" the blond officer interjected, "It mightn't work, the portal may damage this fifty-seventh floor and I-" The wrinkled lady held her hand up swiftly. "Enough, if we hope to leave quietly, this may be our final hope." She then turned to Lucia, Alex and the others, setting the nut on the floor and pointing to a soldier. "Crush it." the young trooper reluctantly moved forward, "See, I gave the sister nut of this one to a guard after the massacre downstairs. I told him to get as far from here as possible. Now, we'll see how far he's gotten."
On the sound of a whistle, the soldier stepped on the nut, a blast of wind and light and noise crackled in through the window, this left some covering their eyes and mouths, and the small purple haired child to hide behind the Empress' dress.
A portal opened up on the floor, followed by a torrent of salt water that engulfed the soldier and quickly drenched the room ankle deep in water before the portal shut. One of the soldiers had the idea to poke a hole in large paned window, which began to drain the room of its excess water.
Gi sighed quietly, "That didn't work." she said.

"A pity" the blond officer stated, looking from the Empress' pocket and then to Zuria. "Looks like we'll need another escape route..."

As the fire went out and the screaming stopped Kyras heard a voice, "We'll come down, and address this under safer conditions!" Well, Nettil was alive. It wasn't time for him to die yet he supposed. He forced energy into his limbs and began waking himself up again. Eyes open, legs working, arms working. Those were the only things coming to mind right now, it was likely more would need to be fixed later but nothing felt broken or particularly wrong.

After a few moments Dalrel walked over and spoke to him as he started to move again "I don't think we should trust Nettil. She's sent people down there to die before, and if there's a risk, I'm not sure she's work to save us..."

Kyras spoke lowly "I trust her, for now atleast. She's sent people to die, but I doubt she realizes she had when she was sending them." he sighed "I don't think she'd purposefully kill us. If something happens we'll deal with it then but if you don't trust her until then just don't put yourself in a position to rely on her."

After awhile they got off the roof and started walking with the others that had found them. His mind was still fogged, but eventually he heard Nettil say something that caught his attention.

"It sounds like one of the invaders has a vendetta against you. Does an angry Snow Elf ***** ring any bells?"

After she was done talking and the others gave their answers he kind of blurted out, "I half remember her attacking Dalrel. I think I stabbed her back in the arena."

His mind kind of went back to a blank until they reached the empty street. He felt that something was wrong but he wasn't sure what, so he stood there waiting for one of the others to go first.
