So the conclusion of the story from what I understand is that angels are giant androids, god hates humans, and retarded religious fanatics are in charge of the government. Yea, that makes sense.
Sounds just like real life to me, lol.
LOL, I will give you the retarded religious fanatics. Although the one in US is finally (finally finally finally!) out on his ass. :-D

Kenshin had the most unsatisfying bullshit ending as well. The last episode looks like it was done using paint.
Have you watched the second OVA, "Reflection"?
Well i was mainly talking about the anime series, OVA excluded, but I watched reflections and I really did not understand it, then I read the manga synopsis and things began to tie in together. Reflection was good I suppose, albeit depressing. But I feel that I shouldn't have had to read the manga to understand the anime, especially since I watched the entire thing from episode 1 and as a loyal fan, i feel that i deserve to see what happened. The third series was just a filler, some of the episodes were nice, but essentially not satisfying at all. The fourth series was meant to be a great as the second one, but they axed it because the third one was so shit. Fuck em seriously, I would have gladly waited for the fourth series and skipped the third one entirely.
I see your point. And yes, the ending to the anime series sucked, I wish they would have used the more serious ova-ending, but I guess it was too grim or something.

Epic final battle rivaling that of TTGL's (or at least coming as close as you're ever going to get while still using typical-sized mecha) followed by "oh yeah and now they're all going to die here, hope you enjoyed the anime!"

Is it so much to ask that an anime that spends its entire run in an upbeat mood end on a similar note?
I dunno about GGG FINAL, I mean the only cast members who "died" were all robots, so they can be repaired, and they're all able to survive dormant for helluva long (Seriously, ChoRyuJin managed to stay buried for 65 million years after an inadvertent trip to the past and all he needed was a reboot), and the human/evoluder population can be sustained for some time whilst Mamoru finds a way to get them home.
