What is your absolute favourite horror game so far?

For me?
Resident Evil 4.

Although im gonna be getting House of The Dead: Overkill and Dead Space soon so im not entirely sure my opinion wont change.

Silent Hill 2 for sure. I'm eagerly awaiting Fatal Frame 4 for the Wii, though.

I actually liked Dead Space. I don't really care what Yatzhee thinks about it, because all genres need to eventually adapt or die. Dead Space adapted.

REmake was pretty good for me. I didn't get very far in the PS1 version, and coming back to a familiar environment now turned incredibly horrifying was an awesome experience

RE 4 was great, although it was more of an TPS then a survival-horror game. it just wasn't scary and you had a whole bunch of powerful weapons. as for horror games, I still remember my run with the original Alone in the Dark. doesn't seem like much today, but back then I was terrified of that game.

Seconded. Dead Space was wonderfully distasteful and scary and gorgeous to look at, a bit like Sharon Stone in the early nineties.

Best horror game imo is either AvP (1 or 2) or Shadowgrounds (also a awsome game)

True, it's not entirely a horror game, but that level is just...huh...
There's no words, you have to play it.

I stick with my choice.

Heh, i did play it..or rather i started, got scared and left it for a couple of weeks till a really bright day, then finished it

it is one of the scariest levels ever!

*sigh* I vote Dead Space. The combat was solid, and I felt the same "Oh shit!" thought whenever a large group of the hard to kill zombies showed up.

I've played games that could arguably be called horror games, but aren't really that scary. It's always the "shock" type of scares and evil monsters.

I much prefer horror that messes with your head, so from the sounds of it, the Silent Hill series is for me. Need to get round to obtaining one of those games soon.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for the Gamecube is easily the greatest horror game ever made... i can not say enough good things about this game... god, i want a sequel so bad i can taste it...
