What's the first horror movie you guys saw and how did it affect you? My first horror film was the thing (the john carpenter version not this shit remake). That movie made it hard for me to sleep for a month, i occasionally still have nightmares about it at 17 and it had successfully desensitized me for just about any horror movie afterwards. I believe i was 5 when i saw it.

My first horror movie was the first Halloween movie. I wasn't very scarred by it because I had no bloody idea what was going on, I guess I was too young to understand what was happening or something because it didn't even make me flinch back then.

Nightmare on Elm Street.

Watched it on my 7th birthday in 1987. My brother put it on.

Slept with my water pistol under my pillow for about 3 months afterwards. Thought it would keep me safe...... I was 7. Scared the ever living shit out of me did that film.

Then 3 years later on my 10th birthday the same brother put Scarecrows on.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096046/

Just for those that have never heard of it, it's a bit obscure and not very well known.

And it became one of my favourite films.

IDK, it was probably Alien fairly early in high school and I don't think it affected me too badly.

It was actually a book that most scared the crap out of me as a kid: I was scared of the dark for weeks after reading about the Nazgul in Fellowship of the Ring. I would've been about 10.

Ticks? I honestly don't know the name. I am pretty sure it was a movie about ticks and they'd latch on to you and swell up to the size of balloons. I was terrified of ticks for years!

Then I watched THE Tick, and the fear was swept away by joy!

One of the Friday the 13th movies. I used to rent horror movies when I was a kid and they would scare the living shit out of me, but I'd always go and rent more :). I was about 8 or 9, I think. The video store guys never seemed to care. In fact I'm not sure if there was even a law about them selling/renting to someone my age at that time.

Uh...I can't actually think of the first horror film I watched. I would have been pretty young, but I really can't remember.

It might have been The Cat in the Hat though. Terrifying, that is. ;)

EDIT: IT was Jaws! I remembered. The impact on me was this: I never watched any of the other Jaws films. That's it. Didn't really scare me.

It was like one of the treehouse of horrors or something, and I was like five. I'm very timid too...

I started watching horror at a very young age, 4 or 5, and that's what turned me into the horror geek I am today.

The first horror films I watched were Alien, Killer Klowns from Outer Space (I watched the SHIT out of that movie), the Tingler, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

I wasn't ever really scared of the films as a kid; I had too much of a fascination with practical effects to ever be really scared by what I was seeing and hearing. I'm still that way.

O.P John Carpenters Thing is a remake, also the remake isn't out so of course you weren't talking about it (well not out in my country anyway)

I think my first horror movie was actually one of the Universal Monster movies, probably Dracula or The Mummy.

I don't think I've ever watched a full horror movie. I work at a movie theater and most of what I see makes me laugh.

I'm too lazy to look it up but I think it was Night of the Living Dead or at least one of those zombie movies. My dad had to teach me to love zombies and how to survive the zombie apocalypse. At first it was scary but seeing how much my dad researched it and we would have plans on how to be safe (like how some parents go over what to do during a fire, my dad did with zombies) it got less scary.

My first horror film is probably some random higher end B-movie about mutant sharks/crocodiles. Think, bad versions of Jaws. I remember watching Deep Blue Sea and a film about a grandmother feeding cows to a crocodile. It has helped me develop a fear of sharks, even though I know that they're perfectly harmless creatures. Hell, more cows kill people than sharks do per year![sub]If old statistics and the media are to be trusted.[/sub]

Horror films I properly remember are The Host and Alien. The Host scared the living shit out of me, it was set in Seoul so I could kinda relate to it. Alien wasn't scary at all, both times I saw it. No, it wasn't bright midday but a grim, cloudy afternoon. I guess it's because I saw Aliens first and that scared me stiff. So did Alien 3, I couldn't even finish it. Also because I knew the 'chestburster' scene and the rough ending.

I'm a sucker for horror so I tend to avoid them. I only like them when they're in the zombie or sci-fi genre.

Toy story made me very suspicious of toys, and it always used to play around Halloween.

Mine was also The Thing and am kinda hoping to see the remake from which I've read both good and bad things about, but I don't care.

It's cool that the younger folk are still watching it.

I watched Alien at age 10... I didn't think much of it until the chestburster scene, but that part terrified me ._.
