This is my first thread here, and I'm in a bit of a rut guys, I love horror but I've run out of new and/or terrifying horror games to play. That of course doesn't mean I've played all of them, and I'm sure there are tons out there I haven't even heard of.

So I'm asking for a bit of help here. I don't care about the platform (although I'd prefer stuff from PS1 era or later) or if it's freeware or not. I'd just like as many suggestions for games that you feel fit the bill as being horror games. Really anything will do.

Also, being the helpful type, I'll list all the games I've played, and heard of. Thanks in advance.

Games I've played:

-Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3
-Fatal Frame 1, and 2
-Dead Space 1, 2
-Amnesia
-Clock Tower 3
-The Suffering
-Metro 2033(it counts sorta)
-F.E.A.R. 1
-Resident Evil 4, and Code Veronica X
-Nightmare House 2
-Underhell
-Mistake
-Dream Diary(Yume Nikki)
-Irisu Syndrome

Games I've heard of and want (feel free to give any reason why I shouldn't get them)

-Alone in the Dark Series
-Silent Hill 4
-Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of something or other
-Suffering 2
-Clock Tower 1, 2
-L.S.D. Dream Emulator
-Eternal Darkness
-Gregory Horror Show
-Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3
-Penumbra Series
-Typing of the Dead(shut-up)

Games I've heard of and don't want (feel free to give any reasons why I should get them)

-F.E.A.R. 2, 3, spinoffs
-Dead Space Extraction
-Silent Hill 5, Origins, Shattered Memories
-The other seventy million Resident Evil games

TL;DR Horror game suggestion please give piss pants, etc, etc, Silent Hill.

Resident Evil 1 remake on the gamecube is GODLY. Best game on that system imo. I still play it to this day on my wii. That game has the most photo-realistic graphics I've ever encountered... and it was a previous gen. Resident Evil 0 was good as well (also on the gamecube/wii).

While this isn't realy a "horror" game I will suggust playing Dark/Demon Souls. I was terrified advancing through just because I didn't want to lose all of my souls(Currency) from a giant ass monster.

That's actually pretty interesting, I didn't think of that. One of the reasons I didn't find the first Dead Space all that scary was because it was really easy. So yeah, a game that becomes scary due to insane (but still fair) difficulty does count. Of course Dark Souls had a hell of an atmosphere. Difficulty alone won't make it horror (Super Meat Boy),but an oppressive atmosphere plus the difficulty would definitely make a game that might not look like horror (a fantasy game like Dark Souls) into a damn scary thing.

Go for Extermination, which is to me what Silent Hill is to Yahtzee, essentially. It's a survial horror game with questionable dialogue and atmosphere that could worry the shit out of you, not to mention an endless supply of deadly monsters.

That's "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth", I have it and it is good. mostly happens in Innsmouth, if you know about the mythos, you might be able to guess what that involves.

Also, try clocktower 1 & 2, there's also a 4th Clocktower called Haunting Ground.

Condemned 1 in particular was absolutely great. Really tense and brutal first-personal melee combat. The second game started off pretty well but then completely lost its shit. Too much weapon-based combat and the magic stuff was just weird.

Definitely try the first two Penumbra games... that'd be Overture and Black Plague. Requiem (the third part) is really just a puzzle game and I didn't care for it.

you realize that the only thing scary is the build-up. That was just for me though.

For a fun sci-fi action/horror game, try Aliens Versus Predator 2. An incredibly fun game which can also be quite frightening when playing as a Marine.

Here's one you probably have never heard of and it'll take you literally a few minutes to check out:

1916 - Der Unbekannte Krieg

http://www.kongregate.com/games/magnussen81/1916-der-unbekannte-krieg

It's a 3D browser game with surprisingly good looking visuals. The atmosphere is superb, and the combination of World War I and dinosaurs is surprisingly terrying.

I'm seeing a sever lack of Condemned in that list. Go play that.

If you wanna play the second though, only play about half of it.

Fear 2 isn't nearly as good as Fear, but it has great creepy moments and is still solid. (Fear 3 isn't creepy at all and ruins the story, but at least plays solid)

Dead Space Extraction is pretty amazing and maybe more of an horror game than at least Dead Space 2

And Silent Hill Shattered Memories is my second favorite Silent Hill Game. Awesome use of the Wii's quirks, fun story, interesting Twists and ...sadly for probably the last time, a great Yamaoka/Mcglynn Soundtrack

Wow, those are some comprehensive lists.
I think i will be using those as well.

additions to the list

Vampire Masquarades: Bloodlines
Parasite Eve may also be considered a kind of horror game

Two to avoid - Darkness Within. the slowest paced game i have ever seen, and Cursed Mountain.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it or not, but there's a Mario-like sidescroller called Eversion that might be good for you. It actually managed to surprise and scare me, it's alright for a free game (though there's an HD version on Steam if you liked it as much). Another freebie is probably Fiend, made by Frictional Games (same guys who made Amnesia and the Penumbra games). It looks ridicoulous, starts out as a cliché horror story but even then it almost gave me a heart attack. I swear the guys at Frictional Games are freaks of the genre, noone else could've scared me with those kinda graphics.

On another note, for a more subtle horror I'll second Yume Nikki (also free). It's more like an existential horror than anything, though it has some creepy scenery and events.
