The only game to ever scare me was Cryostasis. the shots OP had from SH and Fatal Frame were freaky but not necessarily scary. Dead Space made me jump once and by my second play through i found it impossible to die unless i wanted to show someone something gory.

But what sealed the deal was the last mission where you have to shoot her in the head, but everything is slowed down and you can only get the final shot off when she's all up in yo grill. He face could freeze the blood of Satan.
Played Fear, and it was pretty good but later in the game it just gets dull for me. Alma stopped being scary after you know or sense she won't actually damage you.

At least I think she never really can kill you >:S
She can at certain times, I recall dying because I ran into her (instead of jumping out the window, waaaaaay at the start of the game).

Also, if you found is less scary once you figured stuff out, again Silent Hill will leave you disappointed. Sure, the chase scenes are fun, but anything outside of that is just cheap scares that never really threaten you. Though I have to say it got really tense near the end again, when everything gets warped and twisted in a way I haven't seen that many times before. But I'll stop before I start spoiling stuff :p
No no continue!! :O
Since I'm likely not to finish the game or play it again ;____;
Just tell me in a spoiler tag :D

Despite being a massive fan of the horror genre, I am incredibly pathetic when it comes to horror games :(

Why oh why have I just gone and bought Alan Wake?

I have incredibly fond memories of Silent Hill 1. Played it many many times. That was a genuinely scary game especially in it's time.

System Shock 2, the monkeys... also Condemned. Films, not so much maybe The Road if I had seen it as the book gave me the willys. Generally I'm more scared of humans than the boogeyman.

Same here. For some weird reason i have a fear of werewolves :L i know their not real but movies with them freak me out so scariest movie i've have seen would probably be dog soldiers or the descent. I have Dead Space but never play it. Its really unnerving and i only play it with people around :L Some bits of fallout 3,like in the tunnels with all the ghouls.I never knew you had a flashlight until near the end and i went into those tunnels as blind as bat and jumping whenever a ghoul came at me :L Alien vs predator as a marine was creepy enough the noise of the radar and not seeing anything made me shit my pants. And the nusks in ME2 they freaked the hell out of me. In the first their not bad but the 2nd i dread them

I've only played from Silent Hill 2 to 5 and they all have their scary bits! :) Silent hill 3 in particular (the mirror scene scared the hell outta me!). That game took you to the worst places to go when you are alone and scared, a subway, a mall, a hospital for example... I think that one of the most memorable parts of the game was when you went into the Haunted House in the Amusement Park. :) that was pretty screwed up!

Half Life 2 made me jump about a million times, plus Ravenholm made me want to turn back and go the long way round! :) I think the one monster that scared me the most was the Poison Zombie, you hear him before you see him, he throws all kinds of the headcrabs at you and just looks damn creepy! :)

I think the FEAR series has to win the prize for most disturbing and jumpy game. I thought that little Alma was scary until I met grown-up Alma. There were SO many moments in that game where I jumped! Also it's interesting to see if you can sleep with the lights off after you've played that game! :)

I'm only just getting into horror games so I haven't played many yet.
The one that scared me the most was The Cradle in Thief:Deadly Shadows. The first time I played it I tried to finish my objectives as fast as possible and get the hell out.
The ocean house hotel in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines was also scary but not as scary as the cradle.
Currently I'm playing Penumbra: Overture. I haven't gotten very far yet and it has already managed to creep me out.

Isn't Penumbra: Overture one of those click-type games, I heard you have no conventional weapons at all in that one. Never tried it myself.
By the pictures I don't really want too....^-^''

It is. The "best" weapons I've come across so far is a pickaxe and some dynamite. In the second episode, Black Plague you don't get any weapons at all. Instead the game provides you with even scarier enemies, yay...

The only ones that actually managed to scare me were the Japanese horror titles (Silent Hill and Fatal Frame) And even Silent hill isn't as creepy as I first found it. It's usually the games that aren't purposefully scary that get me the most, because I just don't see it coming.

I played a nice little Source mod called Nightmare House: Remake.

Kind of a mish-mash of F.E.A.R. and Fatal Frame.

Sadly, with the new HL2 and CSS update its unplayable.

The bits of Condemned in which emaciated, black-haired people popped up definately creeped me out. The female ones looked like a thinner, dirt-covered version of Kayako, ("Grudge lady" as she may be better known) and the male ones looked like an adult Toshio. (her phantom son) I don't know if this was done on purpose, but the turbo-boost wall climbing reminded me alot of the films.

From that, you can probably guess I'd go with the Grudge movies in general for frightening flicks.
