From a translation I got

-A group of suspects is holding tens of people hostage in a building that contains the Ubisoft Montreal offices as well as other offices
-There has apparently been a ransom demand
-The operation has apparently started around 13:30, so about 50 minutes ago
-Tens of police officers are on the scene
-The employees are possibly kept in a conference room, whereas others have been seen on the roof

I guess they played too much Splinter Cell. Or maybe they're mad that AC sucks or there's still no Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Woah, what the fuck? That's odd. Hostage situation + ransom and everything is not the kind of crime I expect

I thought AC:Viking Edition was doing well with user reviews

Apparently it might all be a prank.
any links? I just heard about this on Facebook but didn't read through it... may have to now. I saw laughing emojis and thought it was just mean bastards but maybe they knew it is a joke somehow?

Working for Ubisoft was already kind of a hostage situation, so this is more like a change in management.

Ubisoft doesn't deserve it compared to many developers like EA, and Activision, and Take-Two.

I mean, none of the average workers from those companies deserve it. They're not the ones putting shits in bags on our doorstep
Your right it's the execs that deserved it, and maybe the psychologists, and marketing people who design game to be addicting.

Ok, these are possibly people's lives on the line here. People died in Canada.

Can we just keep that in mind?

UPDATE 11/13: Montreal Police have now confirmed that no threat was found at the Ubisoft Montreal offices. The Ubisoft Montreal building has been successfully evacuated.

At the time of this writing, it's still unclear exactly what was happening at the Ubisoft Montreal offices. However, it appears as though the "hostage situation" was either a hoax or the result of misinformation. Some have speculated that Ubisoft Montreal could have been the victim of swatting, wherein a fake threat is called into the police to send a SWAT team to a certain location. However, this has not been confirmed, and no one has claimed responsibility yet.

In any case, the situation appears to be under control and all Ubisoft Montreal employees are reportedly safe.
