Because dark action girls are kickass, and she was the only female on the team who wasn't stupid or socially awkward (Starfire).

Actually, she is the most socially awkward member of the team. She is constantly afraid that her friends don't like her and is afraid of losing them. Coupled with the fact that she rarely knows how to express her feelings.

Her original costume was a bit more flattering- a green faux-snakeskin body stocking with feet, a black belt with a gold skull buckle (the one holdover to the new even-sexploitation-y-er outfit) and what looked like a black sheep pelt worn over the shoulders. It was... distinctive.

But seriously I don't find comic character attractive, I just don't see them that way. However if it's a cartoon adaption with a fantastic voice actor, than I usually could listen to Rogue and Gambit all day long.
