Hey guys, I know this has been going around for a long time. In back to the Future Marty Mcfly is able to use a hoverboard in 2014. Now take a minute or two to look at this link : http://www.highsnobiety.com/2014/03/04/doc-brown-tony-hawk-introduce-the-world-to-real-hoverboards/ . While I am pretty sure this thing is bullshit, since there is no powerful energy source or applicable technology yet, it does look pretty cool. What do you think?

The video is fake as confirmed by Snopes:
http://www.snopes.com/movies/films/hoverboard.asp

It's especially indicative in their legal section which states:
"the inclusion of any products or services on this website at a particular time does not imply or warrant that these products or services will be available at any time."

I mean, I can dream. I'd love for these to be real, but they aren't real. Sorry!
I do wonder if this is some viral marketing for a new Back to the Future movie, though. The top right time thing seems to look a lot like the timer in the delorean.

I don't need anything but the video itself to know that is incredibly fake, I'm sorry to say.

Another article about the real world failing to keep up with Back To The Future- another lament about the hoverboard...

Time to wheel out the song that nails it yet again:

Imagine, if you will, putting ten sheets of aluminum in a pool, so they're floating.

Now, imagine stepping on them and standing still.

Now, imagine the pool is bubbling with helium.

See an issue with that? Me too. Those hoverboards look really fake.

Haven't seen that article, but seen things around saying who was involved in faking it.

Check the legal terms of the huvrtech website, and prepare to be sad.

http://huvrtech.com/legal.html

Christopher Lloyd's "apology" video, I would love to win the contest for the Huvr board signed by everyone though.

In fairness, the display of the Delorean is so basic as to make it anything but unique. It's pretty sensible to imitate it on a website advertising a concept introduced into popular culture primarily through a movie where it was featured. I mean, whether the site was real or fake, playing off the BttF connection is smart.

Though it'd be really cool if there was an upcoming BTTF movie.

One of the things that struck me immediately about the video was how all the tension went out of their legs when the thing went on. I'd expect the opposite if they were being pushed off the ground by some mad scientist's dream.

Anyway, I was more thinking about the balance thing. Like, I'd imagine any such "real life" hoverboard would have to have some way to compensate (easy to handwave in a movie, not so easy a feat in the real world), but then seeing someone lean so far to the side on one made me ponder the nightmare of trying to not only balance a real person in air, but to do so at a sharp angle in real time with such a platform (that's already dedicated to keeping you aloft). And yeah. Or, should I say, no. Just no.

Not only would you have to try and stay upright on the aluminum sheets, but also move and keep balanced.

Easy Peasy, right?

On the other hand, we might be seeing Star Wars-esque hoverbikes soonish.

Yep, it's a balancing accident that not even Segway could dream of having.

I'm sad no one's tried to actually sell these. Failblog would have content until the end of time.

This could be the ultimate "Hey y'all, watch this!" moment. Or "hold my beer." either/or.
