Character comedy has always been a bit...weird in FF games, like the character of Cid in FFVII, for example: "Shut up! Sit your ass down in that chair and drink your goddamn tea!" It´s probably mostly due to hazy translation, as you said. Still, I do appreciate the quirky humour.
