I've pondered this as well. I actually put off being a werewolf because of the confusing nature of it in the hopes that once the creation kit comes out the creation of werecats or werelizards might be introduced.

Werewolves are the vassals of Hircine, the Daedric Prince of the Hunt, are they not? So it stands to reason that Hircine, being a godlike being, can kick pesky things like genetics,so long as it falls within their sphere of influence.

Meh. I didn;t really like being a lycan in Bloodmoon, and I HATED being a vampire in Morrowind and Oblivion (Never figured out how to join a vampire clan in Morrowind). So,I tend to avoid lycanism and vampirism like the plague in TES.

Has anybody played a Silverfall game?
There, playing as an Lizardman you can transform into a Weresaurus thing, which looks extremly neat by the way...
Stupid Elves turn into fussy werecats and Humans turn into Werewolves as usual.

Maybe Argonians are actually Synapsids* and not Reptiles?

This would actually explain quite a lot (How they have mammaries, why they don't freeze up in the cold etc.)

*For those who don't know, Synapsids are a class of animals with both Mammal and Reptile traits, they're all extinct IRL but you never know...
