So, having discovered OCremix, I decided to download one of their albums, which the site only offers in torrents.
Since I've never used them before, I'm unacquainted with the file type.

How can I open them to transfer the music to iTunes?

I'm really just clueless, and I am most certainly not pirating music any way, shape, or form.

try downloading Vuze, its free torrent software.

You should then be able to open the torrent file, and it will download to a folder called Vuze Downloads

You need a bit of P2P software (bittorrent is the one I use) and you use that to open the torrent file. It then connects and downloads the files as an mp3 or m4a or whatever straight to a folder of your choosing.

You just have to ultra special promise not to use the software for illegal reasons.

Its basically like a link that lets you download it from other people, you "open" it by using one of the torrent programs that you can download elsewhere.

Download a client like Utorrent or Vuze or BitTorrent and open the file with that, it will start the actual download of the files and it will inform you when it's complete.

Utorrent Here [http://www.utorrent.com/]

Get uTorrent here: http://www.utorrent.com/downloads
Then simply open your torrent file and it will begin downloading your music from peers who are seeding it. Once it's done, find the directory where it downloaded to, and simply drag your new songs into iTunes.

I solemnly swear on the cases of every game, DVD, VHS, CD, and other media type that I own, that I will never use this program for intentional piracy.

I did use Limewire back in sixth grade, though, before I knew it was illegal, though. I'll admit to that.

Listen to the people saying Utorrent. Any other client is a resource hog.

As others have said, use Utorrent. Not really any point in looking at any other options, Utorrent is the program to use.

Also, you might have to sit around and wait some time for it to download, depending on how popular the thing is.
