The problem is that WoW addiction is seen differently from Facebook addiction. Its the same damn thing, only the "main stream" sees Facebook addiction as normal.
Facebook isn't an addiction. It's a plague which has multiplied and brought forth other infections like Twitter to the table.

As for WoW, I really don't know what to say, as I am not in it. There is a section of the world that gets bored easy and seeks it out, and then there's a section of the world that gets board with MMOs after a while.

micro-rewards, positive re-enforcement for completing mundane tasks.

Psychologically speaking it's quite calculating into duping you into wasting time and thereby money in subscription.
as someone who played wow for quite awhile...this is exactly right. if you got bored of it OP, it means you just had other things to waste time on... i for one played wow exactly because it was a time-sink, it had everything in place to keep me going for the next level or the next talent point or new shoes with .00045% more fanciness...id imagine most 'addicts', whether they realize it or not, are just looking for something to waste time on. considering how most here are listing the communities and socializing as their reasons; whereas i thought the community were a bunch of asshats and just loved leveling alts, leads me to believe it hooks you in by having a conditioning mechanism for all kinds for players...
