Possibly Diablo ruined a certain aspect for me as it introduced me to the concept of random levels, where 90% of the game is unique (pretty much) each play through. So games like Kotor/BG/Mass Effect while being really good on first play through bore me very quickly as everything is the same on each play through (ok not 100% everything but you get my point).
I can't imagine ever wanting to sit through the 80-hour drivel of a Bioware game twice. It's not that it's all bad, it's just completely not worth the time. Maybe if it took 20-30 hours to see all the content.
See this is pretty much what i'm saying.
You don't like Mass Effect cos of the length of the game, whereas thats part of what I want in a game .. length. I've been told Fallout 3 can be done in a couple of hours just following the storyline, but I think I logged a couple of hundred hours cos I went exploring. I hate games that are short ... particularly recently. I bought Cod4:MW when it came out and thought it was a good game, could have been great but it was shorter than I would have liked. I haven't bought the newer ones as I believe they are even shorter. The MP side I barely touched as I can see them being active for 6 - 12 months and then dying as another fad comes out, I'm still getting enjoyment out of DoD Source which is about 5 years old or something like that.
If I'm spending £30 on a game then it better have more than 10 hours gameplay, obviously quality gameplay rather than a grind.
Games (and entertainment for that matter) are subjective .... its all about your opinion as to whats good and what's not.
