How come no one's allowed to hate stuff anymore?

How can you lose a friend over bacon? It's... it's bacon! It's a pretty tasty strip of meat and fat. Is it really the fact you don't like bacon they're annoyed over, or the fact you won't join in the joke?

I mean it's not like it was Marmite (All hail the Black Goo God).

Just for the comedy.

Anyhoo, if you don't like something you don't like it. It's not really a reason for people to spurn you. Although I will admit I have also on occasion stated my distaste of certain things which has then led me to be spurned and avoided, I think it's stupid. So i'm entitled to my own opinion but if it's not what you like then i'm all of a sudden the "bad guy"....please.

I just greatly dislike that people misuse the word hate. For example, I loathe and despise almost everything, but I don't hate anything. Same with love, I like lots of stuff, but only love one thing. Stop misusing these words! I've already reverted to mega-loathe, but what will replace love??
OT: You can like and dislike whatever you want, who cares what everybody else thinks? I don't like bacon either. But don't say you hate it.
You see, it started out the same way for me. But saying dislike gained me just as much stigma as saying hate, and I began to dislike having conversations with people about bacon/coffee so much that it grew into what is definitely hate.
Then stop having conversations about it. OR, have it with people that aren't jack-asses.

Very few things cause me hate.

Hate takes up too much energy, though people who label bacon as disgusting are pushing it ;)

The problem is that you're informing them of it. Of course it's not wrong to hate something, but by informing, you're doing exactly the same as those people who worship said things.

Hate it, fine. Love it, fine. But unless it's relevant, or you're off on a rant to yourself, please shush about the stronger emotions. It's like seeing someone pick their nose in front of you.

Let me just higlight this:
Caravaggio said:
And coffee, not only does it stain your teeth, but it inhibits the production of dopamine in your brain. And that's important.
Dopamine has the effect of a raised heart rate and high blood pressure. It isn't the coffee itself inhibiting production anyway, it's the caffeine, found in many other sources too.

OT:
1) Yes, I have, but I try not to.
2) Many things, suck as insults, implications of sexual relations with their significant other(s), degradation of their personal beliefs, and repeated actions that result in unwanted contact to name a few. (Hint: Incurring wrath is a little too broad to encompass "irrational behaviour")
3) Yes, and in the context of your situation, yes, the idea that Halo is overrated seems to be a mortal sin with some people I know.
4) Yes, but you should "chill out" about this too. So they don't like that you don't like something. Big deal.

And yes I've been looked at as some crazed lunatic for actually hating the Beatles by many of my friends and straight yelled at that I'm wrong by people who are not my friends.
YES! The Beatles are bloody awful in my opinion and people need to stop saying that they invented rock. What they did in rock was farther from what rockers have done in the forty years since them then even Elvis. Come now people, see the truth.
Not even that people try to argue that they are better musicians than any of the members in The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin when that is just straight up WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!
Precisely my point!!
The only innovative thing they did at all was be the first to put random noises in the background of their music. And that went out of style after the eighties!
Sir I think I found someone I can actually talk too! Though bacon and coffee would not be in any of our conversations because I love them so much even though I know they're killing me.

P.S.Fuck John Lennon.
I can agree with you guys here. Some of the later stuff they did was ok but nothing great. I've always thought The Beatles were one of the most overrated bands.
> The Beatles are overrated
> Led Zeppelin isn't

what
Exactly!!!! Thank you all for agreeing with me on this.

Judging by how you've explained your dislike of the Beatles (for the record, my opinion on the Beatles is that I can take them or leave them), I'd say it was because you seem to make it sound like your opinion is the right one and people should conform to it, when really they have as much right to like bacon as you do to dislike it. If you're constantly going around making people feel defensive about their choices and acting superior, they won't want to hang around you. I've never gotten anyone angry at me for saying I dislike coffee or don't drink alcohol, so I can't imagine why just that sort of thing would cause people to stop speaking to you.

I met someone today that didn't like Toy Story. (WTF!!!!)

People are allowed to hate things and I respect that they do but to be honest I don't think you should be particularly bothered if someone doesn't like something you like or even gives you shit about not liking something because at the end of the day only what you like should matter to you. Not what everyone else does/doesn't like.

I apologize for the condescension. I'm just a bit grumpy about being patronized. And I hope that statement doesn't sound like condescension, it wasn't meant to be, I would merely like to draw attention to what I reacted to being patronizing in itself.

You're not getting old, Riddlen; You're just running Windows. Reboot and you'll be fine.

Regarding hatred and its use/misuse, most hates start out as dislikes and after being questioned umpteen times in the following fashion, "Why don't you like [insert object of dislike here]? It is teh awsum.", the dislike gets associated with people who can't take a hint and blooms into full-fledged hate.

Example? I detest Starbucks coffee. When I originally sampled it, I made a face and vowed never to spend my money on it again. However, when I talk to people who like Starbucks and am asked what my opinion is, I nearly always get a look of stunned disbelief followed by a "How can you say that?" Mildly negative opinion + repetitive negative judgment based on said opinion = a solid loathing of Starbucks coffee.

Oh, and to those who feel an opinion is not a valid reason to hate, let me tell you a little secret: Hatred is an opinion. Same as enjoyment, contentment, dislike, annoyance, and countless other feelings. You have an experience and the emotion you feel is your opinion of that experience. It's your personal take on what just happened. It doesn't have to be reasonable, fair, just, or even coherent. In fact, the less reasoning there is behind an opinion, the more pure that opinion is.

Because Hate can turn you into an asshole.

(courtesy of the Westbro Baptist Church)

As bad as things may seem you just need to keep a cool head and keep things in perspective. Hate makes it too hard to take a step back and weight things up for what they are truly worth, so you and up doing dumb things that hurt what you never intended in the first place.

Hate is an inevitable human emotion, but let it out by vigorous swearing and punching something inanimate, don't let it get to you like the haters.

You can still have an opinion, but keep your cool and always back it up with reasoned intentions, always keeping in mind your intended aims. If you don't like something, by all means criticise it, that's not the same as hate.

(BTW, what are "fag enablers"? Do they mean smokers? Also, also: Colour, Aluminium, Kilometre, black pudding!)

Most people see hate as if your saying that what they like is bad and should not be liked, however disliking something is simply stating that it doesn't go down well with you. This is why you're getting a very negative response. You dislike how others are treating for your views but you you do the same to them with hate, why don't you express your dislikes as they are and not through hate.

You see though, my arguments aren't to prove that my opinion is superior. Just that is actually logical and based in facts. based on music wavelength, Beatles music is far from anything that most of the world considers rock e. g. Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, etc. and Elvis's music is rather close (And, I remind you, Elvis came first). They did not innovate anything new other than what I previously mentioned and if you can find me an example of another innovation originally made by them and you back it up then I will admit fault, but by all logic the Beatles did not invent rock and roll.

Hate is offensive. Its attractive emotion, not repulsive. When you hate, you dislike something that much that you actually care about it and want to ruin it even if it costs you something, not just ignore it. If you just dont like some really, really badly then you loathe it, not hate it.
Wow, something with that many big words has to be right.

Oh you can hate things, but 2 things to remember :

1) Justify why you hate it.
2) It's still YOUR Opinion/Personal Preference; not fact.

By the way, I fucking love bacon and I like iced mocha coffee.
What I don't understand is why no one is willing to defend their dislike of things with a reasonable group of experiences and facts that. I hate when I ask people why they hate Halo and all they can say is "Hur hur hur! Moar liek Gheylo! whatchumadbrah?!?"
