Its because the sort of people who go after games take a look at Saints Row and think, "I am outraged by this GTA game.

Then, though its popular and good, it isn't as iconic.

And lastly, its more parody then other controversial games.

It's because Saint's Row doesn't try to hide the fact that it is over the top, balls to the wall, nonstop, juvenile stupidity at its finest and I love it!
Yeah. GTA and stuff are things that you can (arguably) imitate. It's hard to imitate hijacking a flying aircraft carrier, smash it into a skyscraper, then parachute off and start nuking the city from orbit with a space laz0r while in freefall, yanno?

Because when this is your main trailer there can be no controversy.

Praise Genki.

Honestly this game is so extreme that anyone who would blame it literally couldn't blame it for anything. "Hey saints row you caused people to drive around in nuclear suv's" I just don't see it happening.

And anyone who was thinking about getting saints row 3 isn't really going to care that some movement or another has a problem with the game letting you beat people up with giant dildos.

It also helps that the games publisher isn't playing up the controversy for publicity purposes

Most of the controversy is about the cut down character creator.

Saints Row 3 just takes Refuge in Audacity. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RefugeInAudacity]

It's because it's so blatantly over-the-top that almost everything would be impossible to do.

One of the benefits of commonly being touted as a "GTA clone" is that GTA takes all the heat. Beyond that, it's so over the top it's like looking at the scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail with the Black Knight fight and suggesting that it's harmfully realistic violence. In an instant, you'll know that hardly any of it can be taken seriously. It's like an adult version of Tom and Jerry, or Looney Tunes. You know, if it took place in a clothing store that lets the characters strip down and flag their junk in your face, or pose for a picture after powerbombing someone's face into a pylon.

I'm guessing it's because no one apparently felt they had to "sheild the impressionable, innocent youth" or whatever back when Saint's rows 1 and 2 came out, now we're up to the third game and no one (among the "ban this filth" crowds) wants to be the one to point out the flaming trashcan they've been ignoring is now a raging wildfire, if that metaphor makes any sense.
Or, as some others said, it's so goofy anyone who stands near it takes 4d12 damage to their seriousness with little or no chance of a saving throw. In fact, even that sentence seemed... Well, there you have it.

Think about it. Even Bulletstorm was making people all sorts of mad before it came out. Isn't it a little odd that NO ONE (to my knowledge) has starting blaming this game for all of the problems in our world today.

I mean you can wack people in the balls with a giant purple dildo and from what I understand, that shit is tame in Saints Row the Third. Shouldn't we be seeing a bunch of Fox News reports about this by now?

Not that I want Saints Row the Third to start controversy by any means, it just seems like if any game was to encourage violence and destructive behavior in today's society, it would be this one.
Some Publishers hire henchmen to start riots over "Too violent" and "A game like this must not exist"
It is pretty common, seems like THQ its not one of those attention whore developers, at least not with the Saints.

Because Saints Row doesn't sell 20 million copies like GTA. Fox News has likely never even heard of Saints Row. And if we're lucky, they won't.

I think it's the popularity issue. While Saints Row 2 did well, on comparison to GTA4, it's a much more minor league player. The 3rd game may have a lot of hype and may sell fantastic, but it stands that till now, the series had to grow in popularity.

Even if the game sells well, it may luck out in being able to hide under the GTA clone blanket, since every station that reports on this stuff only really knows of GTA for these kinda games.

That, and what can you really complain about on the air for this game. GTA has some grounds in reality. Acts that could be deemed possible to copy. Saints Row...not so much. That said, I would love to see someone try to attack people on the streets with a giant purple dildo, just to see how news stations manage to report on it.
