I think the final fantasy series was ruined long ago when they started to make sequels, just let it go square-enix, your flogging a dead horse.
i agree with you. they actually had something when they made Final fantasy 12. although it wasn't that good, it was a step in the right direction. it was new it was a fresh idea and they could have improved on that, but with the new final fantasy game the went straight backwards because of the pissy fans. why in all the ff games they have to have a yuffie like character.
first it was yuffie, then selphie, i forgot wat her name was in 9 but u all know who i'm talking about, then it was rikku. in ff12 they didn't have that pissy character. (they tried but the penele just ended up acting like a plain intelligent human being.) but now in ff13 were stuck with this whining bad acting goofy tw@!$

THANKS FOR Being @#%@%% Square! stupid wankers!
Am i really the only one who didn't hate her.

Mine would have to be the Zelda series. I mean Twilight Princess was okay, a bit of pandering to the fans (but I'm not complaining) was present, but still it was decent. But it's apparent that we will never see a game as strong as OOT or (the golden beacon of games) Majora's Mask.

The Wii motion plus is making sure of that.
Fuck that noise! Link's Awakening is the best Zelda game! =-)

OT: Knight's of the Old Republic 2 was a fucking steaming pile of shit.

Spyro the Dragon got steadily worse, though to be fair the very last one I didn't play.

Command and Conquer 4. Seriously, they took the most popular RTS series besides Starcraft and changed everything for no apparent reason. Everything I liked about the previous games was gone: Base building was nonexistent, all my favorite units were nowhere to be found, and THERE WAS NO TIBERIUM GATHERING. What the fuck. It was entirely hooked up to that ludicrous mechanic where you only got two or three units to start out with, resulting in spamfests without any semblance of strategy. Plus, they added atrocious Ubi-style DRM so you always have to be online. It was such a disappointment.

I'm more than a little surprised nobody mentioned Warcraft...
Wha?
I'm pretty sure it's near the top of my original list.
Though I too am suprised at the lack of its mentioning...WoW not only demolished the story set forth in WC3 (Lets destroy this working relationship between the two protagonists solely so we can have open PvP! Now lets systematically marginalize and kill off every villain we've ever created!) it demolished the series; let alone ruined a great deal of gaming for me.
Of course! How could I forget? WoW utterly destroyed the atmosphere and feel of the series. All of the plot threads left dangling at the end of the Frozen Throne were not wrapped up so much as ripped off and set on fire. With its constant breaking of the fourth wall, frankly boring gameplay, impossible to follow plot that had very little to do with the original story and of course never actually goes anywhere, and the realization that Blizzard really just wants to pump as much money out of the franchise as possible, WoW ruined Warcraft for me. It went from being the mystical, beautiful, wilderness world created in WC3 to something more closely resembling a tacky amusement park or shopping mall.

Even a singleplayer RPG might have been better. I really wish WoW had had mediocre success, so that Blizzard would pull their heads out of their gold-plated asses and make a proper sequel.

And I watched the WOTLK cutscene where Arthas dies, and it's just a big heap of WTF. Emotionless, tacky, nonsensical, OH MAH GAWD IT MAKES ME RAGE

Okay, I'm done now.

Well, we could always consider the majority of the 1st person shooter market... How did all of those companies decide to make the exact same game? That must be embarrassing... Now somebody has to go home and change.
