The above comment made me laugh but its also insanely cruel.. Most kids can't just "get over it"

Iv got my first final exam tomorrow, and then I'll be done with high school. Yay.

@max: oh well of course, since the number one reason for bullying has been confirmed to be ponies. it all makes sense now: just enjoy sports and cars, and you'll live an easy life!

OT: middle school was harder, but in high-school I was in a pretty good spot. never got bullied (mostly because I was probably the biggest guy in my class), had a close group of friends, and got into a sport even before attending high-school (granted, american football isnt the most popular sport here, but when people hear about it, they either get interested or think I'm nuts and back off)...

so, yeah could have been a lot worse...

I'm in sixth form right (optional education for 16-18 year olds in the uk) now so not technically high school but I it's still sort of the same thing and my memories of high school are still raw.

First off, your work load shouldn't be too much. Everybody else deals with it and if you can't find the time you need to cut something out. Whether it's giving up that temp job or not going out with your friends one night. The major problem for me wasn't finding the time but making the most of it. When you're doing your homework just try and forget about everything else and concentrate on the job. Procrastination was and still is the biggest problem for me. I've fixed it to some extent by forcing myself to do an hour of work as soon as i get in.

Another issue you'll more than likely face is depression. Most of us face it in our teen years and usually it isn't too bad. It's best to just find something you like doing and focusing on that. For me it was a mix of videogames, reading and browsing the internet. If it does get too much don't hesitate to find a counsellor, they aren't just for mental people. I've never been to see one but I know a friend who has and it really helped her.

Sex and social life may come or it may not. Either way don't beat yourself up about it. Just learn to value yourself and don't depend on other people too much. If you do you'll end up getting screwed over.

Don't worry about choosing subjects, my policy was too choose subjects i was good at, enjoyed and helped me get into uni. If you don't find anything interesting just choose a couple of sciences and a couple of art subjects.

You mentioned primary school so I'm guessing your in the uk. If you're choosing your gcse options don't worry about it a bit. Unless it's something like a language most places let you choose a-levels which you haven't got a gcse in previously. Just aim for good passes in maths and english and you'll be fine.

Meh, I just follow class. I don't talk to others that much. I've got one good friend at school (a girl named Rachel) and that's all I really need (I also have another friend but I only see him during holidays since we don't go to the same school anymore).

I never studied particularly hard, so my answer has to be that I stopped taking it seriously. I stopped worrying about everything. I had a lot more fun after that. I didn't really know what the hell I was doing, or even what I was trying to do. I managed to earn the respect of some people, and there was a knock-on effect with other people, but I don't really remember how that all got started.

Social interactions. I just muddled through. Never really figured it out. I didn't have the slightest idea 'how' to talk to girls, and it never occurred to me that I should *try* talking and see what they wanted to talk about.

I er... don't have any problems with Highschool?

It's like a mildly boring dayjob with a little bit more take home work than is comfortable. My success at sex and social life is subjective but personally I'm content. I removed temp job out of the equation with a over-arching loan(for all the little things eg: Formal, schoolies etc) from my parents that I'll probably never need to pay back. School work is easy cause I chose manageable subjects and allocated enough of my time to working on them.

I find it hard to understand how people can't fail or have trouble with it. You just need to be organised or, alternatively, play to your strengths or lack there of.

PS: I'm doing exceptionally well grades-wise.

Just take it day by day, if you can't handle that than how you handle in the long run?
I admit I didn't had a social life outside of school so I had dealt my homework after I got back home from school (look at it this way if you get yout homework out of the way first then you gothe rest of the day/ evenning playing games and hanging out etc).
Also I know for one thing is having a temp job AND taking Art class does not mix too well (most of the people who I was with who also had job during Art class had a harder time getting good marks).

Want to know how I got through, eh? Ok, I'll just "fix" your post and you'll see.

Chose general studies (which basicly sets you up for university, but allows you to go wherever you want afterwards).

Do them at once you get home. I dunno how big your projects are, but I could fill about all my projects on one piece of paper (A4-sized) and a sloppy made powerpoint and still get a B.

Not really a factor for me, I don't bother to worry about it. Got my mind on other stuff instead.

Psh, I did good at school and now I'm working at fucking Greggs. (Not bad pay mind, but it's a job people look down their nose at you for, even those without a job...)
I was hated at school, even though I was quiet and kept my head down. Every bit of bit luck happened to me and I couldn't go a day without getting bullied. Whenever I reported it the teachers said it was my fault (not in these words) for being a bit of a freak and not wanting to follow a crowd.
Sixth form/college was a lot better because most of the bullies had dropped out to have 5 kids by then, and it was a lot more easy-going. I had friends of course, who have since completely forgotten about me but they were good at the time. Find a group of mates and you'll be fine.
Halfway through high school, you don't really have to worry about your future life. Give a good thought to what you want to study in college/uni, but grades from this point of your life don't really count towards anything. Still do your best though!

Believe me mate, year 8 (?) is nothing to lose sleep over. Get into good habits early, and for God's sake don't think you shouldn't try to make friends (I knew one person going into high-school, and some of my best friends today I met because of things like being the first ones to arrive to class day 1). And sex? Struth, curb that swagger, if you're not having sex then you're pretty much in the majority (furthermore, most guys who claim to be fucking around your age are usually blowing things way out of proportion). And how exactly are your electives going to influence the rest of your life? I'll be doing Ancient History through HSC, doesn't mean I'm gonna be an archaeologist.

In all seriousness, I get through it quite well. My school's not exactly the most prestigious place on Earth (which is a good thing I think. Can't stand those uppity places), but the teachers are all nice and I've got good friends. 'Tis is an all-boys uniformed school (extremely common around here), so...maybe it's different for you guys. As long as you budget your time (don't do what I did and discover that the videos you need for your upcoming body of work were converted into the wrong bloody format at 9:00 and now you're stuck up on a Sunday night re-converting the lot), act nice and genuinely try to get involved in things then it's a breeze.

Next year kicks off my last two years (apparently the fastest), I can honestly say that I'll be sad to leave the place.

So... Yeah. That's my school life up to this point. Most hate me for it 'cause I get through it so easy, but I just hate them back so its all good :D
Really, I don't care that much about school because, even though it will determine the rest of my life (Supposedly, there are other means to greatness if you fail at school, they just take time), it doesn't care for me. It doesn't try to make itself interesting in any way, and some teachers TRY to make it boring and create a terrible work environment, so I just say 'Fuck it' and do nothing, yet still pass and epically win.

Oh shit, I have a maths test tomorrow. Ummm... Yeah, I'll find out what is was on, then get back to you on that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QS0q3mGPGg&;feature=mh_lolz&;list=LLOLjOGfygGW7RbG89zJPR4w side of things...

You drop out and, if you live in the US, get your GED and then go to college.

I had/have really bad social anxiety that wouldn't let me concentrate or really stay in school. I'd get panic attacks and feels sick for over an hour. After a bit, I dropped out because--even though I was in senior year--I was felt too old for high school (19 and not my fault for failing grades; the teachers didn't bother helping me), so I just dropped out and started working towards my GED, which would be faster, and the college I'm going to let me go two semesters without my GED; then I got it and I'm still going.

I sold chewing gum to my fellow students. Made a profit and all. Then I spent it all. On chewing gum. Near the end of the year summertime, I sold water pistols for the same intention. Got water pistols banned on the official "Do Not Bring" rules.

I had my headphone inside my sleeve, so I could "lean my head onto my arm."

I never bothered with girlfriends. So many relationships break up a month afterwards, saw no point, not that any girl did like me.

Hmm. For the most part I had a core group of 4-5 friends that hung out with. Outside of that I just put my nose in a book and ignored everything else. Wasn't bullied or anything. Just the occasional joke and people I just couldn't stand hearing talk. Overall it wasn't bad. Just wasn't my favorite time. I will say I got my books taken away quite often in school. Not that it did much. I just ignored everything at that point.
