How did you pick your username?

[Owyn_Merrilin]

I was trying to come up with an appropriate name for a MUD. Around the same time, Betrayal at Krondor was released as freeware. The main character of the game (or at least the lead for the first chapter) is named Owyn. I liked the name, because it was appropriate not only for fantasy role play, but for pretty much any game I was likely to play, so I decided to take it for myself. Now, Owyn on its own is often taken, but I remembered that Thom Merrilin's nephew in The Wheel of Time is also named Owyn, so I put two and two together and I've been using it ever since. It's only the second screen name I ever came up with, and I now use it for pretty much everything that isn't better served by a play on my real name.

I'm not sure how I got to this name, used it for a long time. I guess I liked the way it sounded.


Doesn't really matter I don't use this one anymore when I sign up for a forum/game. I now use Veniathan which is a mixup of Leviathan_ and Venator (Another name I used to use in online games, I named it after the Venator class ships you could get in certain Star Wars Empire at War mods)

I like the way it sounds and I kind of 'own' the name, because when you type it into google you'll only see my profiles on several websites in the list

Long story short, when I was a freshman in college they shaved my long hair leaving only a strip on the back of the head, and I spent the next six months wearing it as a braid. That earned me the nickname Hare (as in Hare Krishna, for those who didn't get it), which is how my best friends know me to this day (some of them don't even know my real name).

That was in 1993, long before I set up my first email account. When I finally did so, I found out that the name "Hare" was aready taken. But I was and always will be the True Hare, and that is how my username came to be.

Then, after having Calumon join me on the Escapist, I decided to grow out of being Catkid906 and became Jack and Calumon. Why? Because my name is Jack, and I have Calumon. This is the first place which I placed this Username, second of which is Youtube.
