When we are kids, we are impressionable, we tend to copy what we see, and music is no exception to the rule. How did your older family members taste in music affect your's? Do you still like that kind of music?

Growing up, I remember two major kinds of music, rock from my dad, and country from my mom, while I still have a soft spot for a good country tune, I really latched on to Rock. I still remember my dad listing to it on the radio.

I still love it to this day, but when I was about 11ish I discovered the band that would be my all time favorite, The Beatles, fuck yeah. My late uncle listened to them too, but I dont have any memory of it, so this is something I discovered on my own.

Get out those rose tinted glasses people, its nostalgia time!

Same, but instead of The Beatles I latchd onto Green Day then through punk and into metal.

For the most part i really disliked my parents music growing up. I think the biggest influence came from my dad, in moments of insanity (or something) he would play nothing but classic rock. From The Beatles, Eagles, Queen, The Who, Credence, etc you name it he would listen to it at random times. So i picked up a lot of what i like in rock these days from that.
All those bands you listed could all go into a top ten bands list.

My step dad played Country music when we drove around.

I hated my step dad.

Country sucks.

My mom and dad didn't really affect my taste in music. My brother did though, he introduced me to rock, eurobeat, and j-pop. While my sister introduced me to r&b and rap.

I still love all those types of music.

My family has a fantastic taste in music, they never pushed it upon us, but it was impossible to not like the music. Tom Petty, Queen, The Tragically Hip, Rolling Stones, you name the classic band, I have listened to it over the years.

My brother also has a great taste in music, but again, that is from my parents. I really like almost all kinds of music, if there is a catchy rap song or punk, I like it. The only music I cannot stand in really heavy metal, and screamo, which are both pretty easy to avoid.

My dad influenced everything I listen to.
He is a big music collector and has everything from Bob Dylan to crazy African Tribal Death Metal. He got me started on The Ramones, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, and from those I found my own musical interests.

My siter was the biggest influence in my music taste. As much as i hate her, i have to thank her for this.
She basically forced metal down my head until i loved it and didnt listen to much else

My Dad pretty much only played The Beatles, and, while they're good, he just kepy trying to force me to listen and appreiciate, so in the end I gave up on them. He really put me off the band.

My oldest brother is deeply into his heavy metal and thrash metal, so I guess he's the guy that really got me into that, and then I simply expanded, based on bands that I've been told could be good, or bands which have a "we sound like x" tag on them, or bands I hear on Scuzz.

The only similarity between mine and my parents (i.e. Dad's) tastes are Deep Purple, who I got into through my Dad. They generally liked more mellow kind of rock 'n' roll (which I define more as pop) whereas that just seems boring to me. Amazingly my Mum went to see Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Who, although now thinks almost all of my music is just noise-even when it's not!

My dad loved guitar, so I got a lot of Steve Vai, Joe Satch, Eric Johnson, and other guitar virtuosos when I was a kid. He also introduced me to a lot of classic rock.

While I still appreciate those guitarists and love classic rock, I sort of discovered contemporary music and now dig indie bands a lot more.

Listening to my fathers music I got a bit of a taste for 80's music then dropped that. My sister and brother's music has made me hate rap, hip hop etc even more that I already did. Actually I hate all of my brother and sisters music but it would take too long to list all of the singers since I don't know the genre.
