Most of us I'm sure act slightly differently online than we do offline, be it letting our nerdy side out a little more, to almost a complete personality change. So how differently do you act when online (this applies to online gaming, forums, chatrooms, etc) compare to real life?

Generally when i'm online I am a lot more unforgiving to people who annoy me. If someone annoys me in real life I can just ignore them, but if there's someone being a complete ass on the internet I tend to be a lot less tolerant. My nerdiness doesn't really change that much, my friends knoww i'm a pretty hardcore gamer.

About the same.

I'm arrogant and overeager IRL, and it carries over perfectly to the medium of the internet.

Eh, I'm not too different online. I have a better time putting sentences together typing than speaking, though. My mouth tends to screw up what my brain wants to say.

I suppose I'm more outgoing online as well.

I'd say I was pretty much the same, though I hold my tongue more often irl because you can't go around upsetting people that you are going to see again all the time.
That's true. A conflict on the internet ends as soon as you close your laptop, but in real life an awkward situation can persist for a long time.

I'm a little more calm and composed in my real life, but otherwise I act exactly the same. I don't see a point in acting any differently online or pretending to be someone I'm not, so I don't.

ooooh, so THATS what IRL stands for! I was wandering about it ever since Suiseiseki IRL made her presence known on The Escapist...

OT, my personality kinda changes on the forums rather frequently, so its hard to say... sometimes its more like my real-life self, sometimes it isn't.

I seem to act the same as well. I don't see the need to be different if none of you guys know who I am. :p

I'm exactly the same online and off. Like literally, I can't think of any differences in the way I act.

Fewer sex-jokes online, and a bit more polite than IRL. Don't know how that happened, but there you have it.
Make of it what you will.

Something to do with the majority of forums banning you for insulting people or swearing, perhaps? :p

I tend to go for the death threats fairly early on. Strangely enough, it used to be my online persona, but now they've kind of merged...

My sister walked in my room yesterday whining that she wanted to go on facebook so I just said "Get out or I'll throw you down the stairs"

She doesn't even realise I say it anymore.

Very similar. I see no reason to act differently just because I'm behind a screen. The biggest difference is that I make more sense in text - I have a habit of talking quite fast and without thinking which results in a lot of rambling and crap when the wires get crossed between brain and mouth, whereas the time taken in typing and the ability to edit means I'm much clearer in writing. I swear a lot more in real life too.

It might be a factor, but I don't think it's the main reason. For whatever reason, I just feel it's imperative that I'm nice online, moreso than offline.
Not that I'm much of a douche (or a perv) offline, but still.

not that different when I play online... since it just seems like myself coming to play with others.

when i play RPGs though... I usually play it like a character that would be most interesting at that moment, especially in KotOR or Mass Effect etc. Then I usually play it again and act like a complete dick to everyone- or as I call it, the Murderface playthrough
