I have googled this and cannot find anything. I have never used a mod before and am new to PC gaming.

I have downloaded Jarrod's Morrowind Texture Replacement mod and I have no clue how to activate it.

My version of Morrowind is the game of the year one from Steam.

Can anyone help?

Sorry for putting 2 Morrowind related threads in one day but the other one gave me no answers...

You will have to move the nod files into, or into the place of, the gamedata folder. I myself am fairly new to PC but thats how I understand it.
Yeah that's what I thought and I tried that, but the RAR file won't copy into the other datafiles folder

I don't even know what a RAR file is mind you... that's just what the download called itself...

A RAR file? it's a compressed format you need to "open" it with a program such a 7zip or Winrar

...you post a trollish thread about how much Game "X" sucks.

Oh wait, wrong type of mod. Were there no instructions in the place where you downloaded it from?

You need to download a good archive program to open the RAR archive. I suggest 7zip, it is free and can open most archive formats.
Once you get it unzipped (don't unzip it directly to your Morrowind folder). you should have a ESP or ESM file (or several, never used that mod), and since this is a texture mod, a folder called Textures, plus a Readme. Merge the mod Texture folder with your Morrowind texture folder, and copy over the ESP/ESM file. Then you need to get the Morrowind splash screen up and click on "Data Files", then check the box next to the mod you want to activate. Then boot up Morrowind.

Yes, Winrar will work, but it is just a demo (unless it has changed since I last donwoaded it), 7zip is free, and can open RAR archives, just not create them.

My Morrowind file doesn't seem to have any textures folder, but I dragged all the textures into the data files folder and maybe that would work?

Where would I find the textures folder?

Yeah, that'll work, I forgot that only mods use "Data/Textures/" it should work
Note, just to be clear, ESP/ESM files go in "/Data/" not "Data/Textures/"

What are SEP/ESM files?

I dragged all the stuff over into the Datafiles folder and the mod still hasn't activated. Am I doing something wrong? What does merging the folders mean?

Sorry... I am technologically challenged...

This is FUCKING BULLSHIT.

I installed the textures mod by dragging it into the data files folder and it replaced my game files and now I have to reinstall the entire game.

What the fuck???

Has anyone else used mods on a steam version of morrowind?

Fuck it, I'm sticking to my 360 from now on.

Hmmm... I tried finding the mod and looking at the files, but I can't find the mod, could you please send me a link?
That way I can tell you exactly how you do it for that particular mod.

And ESP/ESM files are the main data files for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. They hold almost all the information about the gameworld, quests, etc. They do not hold the actual models and textures, but they do hold about everything else. Your Morrowind has 3 (since it is the GotY edition). Most mods also have at least one, although some model/texture mods don't have any at all, since the game checks the Data/Textures/ fol before checking the archive that holds the vanilla resources.

The Steam Morrowind forums [http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=618] will probably have a better guide for using mods on the Steam version. There was a few threads on mods when I just found it then, and they defiantly work.

Edit: also couldn't you have just verified the game files and it would have fixed the ones that you buggered instead of redownload the whole thing?

Most come with a readme, or have you tried that?

A find luck is often a factor in whether they'll work or not though.

Thanks :)

I finally got some mods up and running, the difference is amazing!

It went from a dull, brown, lifeless game that I didn't even enjoy looking at into a lovely colouful vibrant world.

The mods I used were:

Better heads
Better Bodies
Illuminated Windows (adds a great deal of colour to the towns)
Morrowind Visual Pack (hi-rez textures - very nice)
Texture fix (smooths over the seams between textures)

I'm gonna stick to the vanilla quests and characters for now, it's just nice to have the vanilla game look so pretty

these mod guys are geniuses, the stuff they create is amazing!

it's almost shameful, the amount game publishers are charging when these talented people give away thier work for free.

I know what you mean, and I'm glad you got it working.
I wish your sword to stay sharp and your mind keen!
Now, I feel obligated to point you to my own mod, which adds a small town, in Telvanni style, although I think the main quest to get the key is broken, not sure, but you can just open up the console ("~" key) and click on the door and type "unlock" to get in.

Nice work, the screenshots look cool, but where is the file to download? Do you have a direct link to the download maybe?

How long do those things take to build? And what do you use to do it? It must require a lot of dedication.
