How do I convince people that Skyward Sword is good?

I've noticed that a hell of a lot of people here have been quick to diss Skyward Sword after a certain popular online reviewer bashed it.

So... Bandwagon, much?

Seriously, I just played Skyward Sword, an I honestly think it's the best game in the franchise so far.

Not only are the motion controls freaking amazing (any lag that exists is so small that it doesn't even matter, I certainly didn't notice any) and the implementation of a "stamina gauge" allows for a much more acrobatic style of gameplay that really makes the game refreshing and fun.

And while the game may be padded out, how exactly is that bad in any way whatsoever? Yahtzee himself said that Skyward Swords's greatest flaw was padding, but he also says that Wind Waker is his favorite, and Wind Waker's overworld map was 90% padding.

So... How exactly do I convince everyone on the forum to stop complaining about these things?

The "flaws" in this game are so minimal that any normal person wouldn't notice them at all. And yet, they speak of them as though they ruin the game entirely.

You can't. Sorry.

What you can do is decide that you're not going to get bent out of shape over what other people think about a game you like. Why does it matter if they don't like it?

Wow. My fanboy alarm just went off. Then it started smoking and exploded.

You want to convince me the game is good? Buy me the game and a Wii to play it on. I'll try it at least once, but I'm not about to lay down a significant amount of money on the off chance that it will be worth it.

Um, have them play it. And no, the flaws in the game are not minimal, I don't think it's a bad game, but there are many poor design choices that just build up and bother me to no end. I do like a lot of things too though. I need to finish it before I can form a full opinion though.

I've never played the game myself so I can't comment on whether or not the criticism is deserved, but I must ask: why do their opinions and how they formed them matter? Who cares if some people don't like it? And who cares if they may or may not have formed those opinions because some popular critic says they don't like it? Those people probably weren't going to play the game, anyway. Zelda is by no means an unpopular, unknown, or unsuccessful franchise. It's been handling unreasonable haters for nearly 20 years now. I really don't think a few more is going to matter much at this point.

People are going to like things, and people are going to dislike things. And a lot of times they aren't going to have a good reason for doing so. People's opinions do not change the content of the game, so it's pointless to worry about it. If they're going to let their mindless reverence of some critic tells them dictate what they do and don't hate, then that's their problem. And if they dislike it because they've played it and decided they don't like it, then that's their opinion, and they have a right to have it.

You can't convince people the game is objectively good, because there's no such measurement. All you can do is clearly explain why you personally enjoy it, and if they disagree you have to live with that. That's the way opinions work.

Though of course it is a two-way street, and they in turn have to live with the fact that you like the game.

I am a massive fan of the Zelda series even going so far as buying a preowned Wii and a special edition of the game for £100 from GAME even though I don't rate the Wii as a console.

Even though I've enjoyed what I've played of Skyward Sword, I would not say that it is the classic that most reviewers have tried to make it out to be and most of that is down to the flakey motion controls. For a start the aiming is just bad, trying to aim at anything and having to press down on the Wiimote to recenter the aiming reticule is so annoying it makes me want to eat my eyes and trying to use the net to catch bugs is so bad its almost broken. Plus the sword combat is not as responsive as people would want you to believe, I have beaten many many enemies just by wiggling wildly, even the bad guy who catches you sword is easy to beat this way. I would go as far as to say that Twilight Princess's tacked on motion controls worked better.

And I have to agree with Yahtzee, your support character is the most annoying thing ever, she even makes Navi tolerable.

Like I said, I have enjoyed what I have played so far because its Legend of Zelda, but its not perfect, it has its flaws and they drag the game down in my opinion.

Well... Maybe these people have legitimate complaints about the game and honestly don't like it. Are your implying that people don't like the game simply because someone panned it and can't legitimately dislike the game?

Good for you, seriously. That's your opinion and I respect it, however some might not think that way. We can't all think the same, world would be pretty boring if we did as would the entertainment industry.

This is pretty anecdotal just because you didn't find the motion controls to be a hassle or laggy doesn't mean others didn't.

Padding is always bad unless its put down to stop you from breaking your back after a fall. Padding artificially lengthens a game (or movie but since we're talking about games here, we'll stick to just that), its not there to add more fun, its there to lazily make the game longer rather than having to put effort into making it a longer game.

You can't, shouldn't and won't. People have a right to think freely about a game, no one should force people to thinking their way.

This is called the "no true Scotsman" falicey, I'd recommend you look it up. Maybe it did ruin the game for them.

Your post seems to be based around forcing your opinion on others, yours isn't the be all and end all. You thinking Skyrim Sword is a good game is your opinion, if people want to think differently then that's up to them.

As for Yahtzee's review, you know, you don't need his approval to enjoy the game? If you like it, play it... Why should you care what others think of it? I don't understand how that can't hurt you playing the game. Yahtzee as critically panned plenty of games I enjoy, especially the Final Fantasy series, however I don't get upset about it. I leave him to think what he will and I go off and enjoy my FF.

You can't, not don't, can't. Making people think skyward sword is good is like making me think skyrim deserves all the praise it gets. You can't do it because "some people just aren't into that."

Of course, they were bashing it before last week's review, but why not just accuse people of bandwagoning?

So... How exactly do I convince everyone on the forum to stop complaining about these things?
So you attack and dismiss people, then you wonder how to get them around on your side?

Are you for real?

You know, it sucks for me to see people not like Skyward Sword as much as I do too, because that means there's less people for me to talk to about it. But what can I say? Different strokes. True, there are bandwagoners everywhere, but ultimately everyone has a price.

All the complaints I've heard about SS, and Zelda on the whole, are ultimately legit. Me being a fanboy, I find them to be either part of the charm or an innocent little fart. Everyone farts, right? To others, though, it pulls them out of the experience or makes them feel like they're playing the same game.

Like with Skyrim and its bugs. To me most of them are unforgivable, to others they're a pesky fruit fly and no more. Shoo it away and continue, dovahkiin.

People will just like what they like for whatever reason. If it helps you, though, know that I adored every single second I spent with Skyward Sword. Not my GOTY, but it's as good as Majora's Mask in my book.

Will. Never. Happen. You are attempting to change people's opinions based on your own opinion which you falsely think is gospel fact that everyone should accept. A lesson for everyone to learn is this: not everyone will like what you like, no matter how many "logical" or "convincing" arguments you think you have.

So....trolling or serious? Place your bets people!

And just so I don't get a warning, so what if they don't like it? Does it bother you that much?

Fools will be fools. Internet people might just be pretending to believe something dumb just to upset up. I know that Yahtzee won't see the light about %90 of the video games he talks about no matter how much people might like to show him reason. You can always praise what you like and ridicule those who don't like, well, %90 of the internet. Especially if what you say has merit such as the fact that the controls in Skyward Sword are %100 solid. Hey, at worst your voice is could be another loud one in the pool. And that's all that matters according to Jim Sterling, being the loudest.

Heck, look at most of the people in the Skyrim and Skyward Sword rivalry. Look at the attitude of many Zelda haters there. Do they seem open minded to you? No, many of them were just bashing Link for seeming "effeminate" to them.

Gosh, I'm happy to see a Skyward Sword topic for once.

GAH! No one else's opinion matters but mine!1!!1!

Though seriously, why do you need to convince people? You're allowed to think whatever you want for whatever reason. There's people on the site that dont care for Windwaker, but I dont go out making them change their mind.

I did not even like twilight princess and the new game seems like it is pretty much the same, except with a new story and even more motion controls. The only pros I have heard are from the fans that cannot see the game objectively but unfortunately that is also the case with the critisisms.
Until someone gives me a real good reason, that is not something that already existed in an earlier zelda game or the motion controls, I am not intrested.
