But the problem with that is in a game like this, you dont live long enough to develop your own style. They kinda asssume your going to be great as FPS games when you buy this.

And yes, alot of tips you can give are common sense, you have to look at how belificial real tips are. Telling him, "Stay in cover" is common sense. Telling him, "Defend an area near your team to prevent flank attacks" is extreamly helpful. How many times does your entire team die because one dude walked all the way around the map so he could go on a knifing spree?

Theres always something useful you can tell someone. No matter how small the peice of information, you can still use it. It takes over 200,000 words to make up the english language. You dont have to know them all, but everyone you know helps.
But then you have players that don't know that in the game and have their own agenda. That makes a lot of advice redundant. Sometimes it's impossible to not reload around a corner or defend a position because you'll eventually need a new clip and you'll always have weak links that die in their positions. Each match will bring about new problems that can't be dealt with internet advice, you only have seconds to decide whether you'll run back and help out or whether you'll stay and defend your position. What if everyone else is having the same thoughts? You can only deal with the problems as you encounter them.

I still maintain that the best advice would be to use your noggin and just play the game. I would hope that would be enough for the average person to play a game. If it isn't then I can expect a lot less challenging games and a lot more hour long tutorials.

EDIT: I just realised, I'm this threads asshole. Eh, there's always one, I guess it's my turn.
Nah, you arnt this thread's asshole.

But the thing is, you also cant worry about the "what ifs". That will get you killed more oftin then ussual. You have to keep a cool head and pay attention to whats happening. Even if theyer are weak links, its best if you arnt one of them.

as i said in my first post ((not related to yours)) i tend to be the best person on my team, with scores around 44/7 every couple of matches. And to be honest, im not a great player. My reaction times tend to be a bit slow, and i take risks i dont need to. But its because i know when to hang back and when to push, based on the situation. I use the knowledge i have all the time, because every little bit helps.

A person is only as smart ((or good in a game)) as the sumation of theyer knowledge. A person who can build computers from the ground up may have money, but if he gets a flat and doesnt know how to change it, hes obviously not all that smart. ((My Uncle Rob isnt exactly "good" with anything not related to computers or TVs))

buy some surround sound headsets from turtle beach, tritton, or astros...so you can hear your enemy coming and get the jump on them

It's pretty much just a case of playing it a lot. There are little tips and tricks you can pick up, but mostly you just need to keep at it if you want to get considerably better. Learn the map layouts, perfect your class and generally just get quicker on the trigger.

also fargo i see you changed your avatar again....and its awesome.

The braid learns from past experiences, whether you want it or not.
As such, playing a game for a long period of time will automaticly adapt your brain and reflexes to it.

Pretty simple question for those who play Black Ops online (there will be loads of you, obviously).

How do I get better at this game online? I wanna get a decent experience of it, which is pretty impossible when getting killed in 3 shots by enemies who mysteriously manage to appear right the fuck behind you.

I'm pretty sure it's just a reflex issue, but if it's not there has to be some way to actually get better at this ridiculous game?
Have you tried not playing it and picking up, say, Team Fortress 2? Or Bad Company 2 perhaps? You'll find that there is much less of a twitch factor in these games than in the ADD inspired CoD titles that have come out lately.

Failing that, Shotgun and corner camping is a sure fire way to get at least one kill a map.

Well I can definitely say I'm not that good at CoD. You're right in saying that it's best to have all the knowledge you can available so you can always draw on it. Every little bit of knowledge does help, but it's best to discover these things yourself, rather than be told them. But that's just me.

This is how I did it in MW2. Firstly, find a gun in each class (except sniper rifles) that you really like the iron sights for and can use as well as a red dot. This frees up an attachment slot for you. Secondly (and most importantly) DO NOT RUN IN!!! If you know someone is coming round a corner, aim down sights at the corner and wait for them to poke their head out, then shoot them. In other words, if in doubt, let them come to you. You usually have all the time in the world. I know someone will call this camping, but it isn't. If they run round a corner and you're already aiming there, is it camping? No. If you must attack, make sure that you know what position the enemies are in first, or you'll be riddled with bullets the second you advance. A recon plane will do, and is a brilliant killstreak anyway. Also, stun/flash grenades are good if you're attacking, but bear in mind that if you chuck a stun in a doorway and it doesn't get anyone, every gun inside will be pointing at that door, so don't use that door.
Hope that helped :)

Play more cautious, try not to get frustrated. If you get to a point where you are playing terrible and can't focus, I would take a break and play a more relaxing game or watch a movie. Then you can go back and probably play much better. Also, try watching some clan matches or high level players if you can find any.

Some people are just naturally better. Of course some of it is practice, but there are people on my friends list who have played for about 100 hours MORE than I have and yet my k/d ratio is a 3.2, and they're mostly between 1.0 and 2.0.

My best advice would be to just be careful, check your corners, don't go running into battle like a moron. Chances are someone is waiting in a bush, or a window for you to walk around the corner.

Stop playing Black Ops? If you must play Call of Duty then don't play the shitty rehashes.

There are a few tricks to getting better at the game. You can try some reflex exercises. It's also a good idea to try and explore the maps offline with a friend. Most rookies make mistakes are because they don't know the terrain. Having a friend along allows you to try different locations and angles, and take it at your own pace.

It's also important to know how you play in the game, then tune your weapons and tactics accordingly. For example, I'm a flanker type player, so I usually need good speed and high damage to cause maximum chaos and disruption of enemy forces, hence I will take guns like assault rifles and move around the sides to evade the primary angle of enemy fire.

Most of all, just play. Experience is the best teacher.

Hope this helps.

I find that stealth is the name of the game here, now that most of the bullcrap weapons are gone. move slowly, cover your back, dont sprint unnsecairily, and catch people out, surprise kills are the most common. Keep an eye on where your team are, and where the enemy bas is for adjective games. Try not to bunch together with your team, or this will result in nade kills or assists (generally for you).

Remember, slow and steady may not get 89 kills in 3 seconds, but It will bring you a good kill death ratio, and work up killstreaks quick.

Bad Company 2 I was actually somewhat good at. Also, don't get me started on Team Fortress 2. I hate that game with a passion.

Profit.

Kidding,[footnote]I'm not kidding, this thing is incredible.[/footnote] You might just need to hone your skills by playing it.. a lot. Try out Combat Training and get a feel for a weapon that clicks with you. Since you can progress far faster via bots, it essentially feels like a "Black OPS: Test mode" option.
this dude isnt lieing, this combo here is godlike in its rapeability

been 30-0 a few times with it, but scavenger is probably a good idea to use cause it tends to burn ammo like no-ones business.

I found that diving to the ground into cover sometimes helps in a tight spot, or if someones onto you in a building find a window and dive out of it, and it is also funny to see yourself fly out of a window to the ground.

Try to find a gun/attachment/perk setup that you're comfortable with. At the moment I'm using an M16 (burst fire all the way) with an ACOG scope, the last pistol you can buy (I can't remember what its called) with the fully-automatic upgrade, combined with the Scavenger perk, Sleight of Hand perk and Second Chance pro perk.

I would say 90% of having any success at it is just speed and common sense; the other 10% is dumb shitbird luck. That said, here are some things to consider:

1. Aiming down the sights is only meaningful in certain situations. Don't stand ramrod still in the open trying to line someone up looking through your scope when they can just run around you and hipfire before you ever get a shot off.

2. Sprint in short bursts and never sprint if you think someone can engage you(unless it's a pretty long distance). Otherwise you'll just end up running into bullets before you can shoot back.

3. Consider range. Do I really want to try and take someone down with my SMG when they're so far away? Is running into that room really a great idea with this slow, bulky LMG? Why am I looking out this window with a fucking shotgun?!

4. Stop trying so hard to get headshots. Yes, it's a quick kill, but in most fights it's so frantic that fire rate tends to win out most of the time. Aim for their chest. You'll score more total hits and often get headshots from the recoil anyway.

5. Make use of equipment. Claymores. Grenades. Suppressors. Perks. The game gives you more tools than you can usually use up in one life. For a total survival package, I would consider Claymores, Semtex, an automatic assualt rifle with a high rate of fire(FAMAS, Aug) with a suppressor or extended mag, along with Scavenger(Ghost is fine too), Sleight of Hand and Second Chance.

6. Be fucking paranoid. Always assume that a Ghost Pro is sneaking up behind you or that a camper is waiting ahead.

7. Pay attention to enemy killstreaks. If you hear that a Cobra is incoming or that bombs are gonna start falling out of the sky, staying indoors might be a good plan for the immediate future. There's more subtle ones too though...if they have a Spy Plane up and you don't have Ghost...they know where you are.

8. Play Domination.
