Pretty simple question for those who play Black Ops online (there will be loads of you, obviously).

How do I get better at this game online? I wanna get a decent experience of it, which is pretty impossible when getting killed in 3 shots by enemies who mysteriously manage to appear right the fuck behind you.

I'm pretty sure it's just a reflex issue, but if it's not there has to be some way to actually get better at this ridiculous game?
What game mode do you play and what setup do you tend to use? (weapons, perks, etc). Depending on what you're playing you should use different combos to do better.

But you should try combat training then slowly crank the difficulty up as you get better. But not past hardened - at that level they are insane

Run to cover
crouch whenever you aren't running
If there is no cover available, go prone
Aim everywhere where an enemy could be
Any suspicious movement shoot at it, question later
Try radar, napalm strike and motor strike
Don't hold down the fire button, shoot a few shots take your finger off the trigger then shoot again. Makes your shooting much more accurate especially at further range
Try tear gas, smoke grenades are worthless
Find a class that works for you. If it's famas with a scope, go for it! If it's dual wield pistols, go for it!
Never run out into open areas
Learn the maps
When you find a good spot, set up some claymores near the entrances and move after a few kills
If you're dying a lot, stay back for a bit. You will just die more
Keep calm. If you're getting frustrated take a deep breath, stick back and keep your cool. If you are still dying then maybe leave the match or turn off the game entirely and take a breather

I don't play much but that's what I gained for the few times I've played it

Pay attention to your map, keep moving. Pay attention to areas where your back is protected. Find a gun you are good with. This last one is difficult but a big game changer for me.

Also pay attention to your mistakes/areas of difficulty and use perks and attachments to offset them. I'm a shit shot usually so I have an extended mag so that I won't have to reload as soon, also Warlord so I can have a better sight.

Edit: Also you show up on the map if you fire so reserve your shots for when you need to, stay out of open areas.

Tried hardcore mode? I found im better in hardcore mod, also a good tactic would be to play something else then deathmatch and try all the game modes, and find the thing that fits you.

Also learn the maps and see vantage points enemies normally will camp (or you will camp)

Try pacing yourself. I started doing that and it works wonders. Use the sprint function sparingly if you're not using SMGs or Shotties.

You need to train and have a montage.
Seriously tho, you might want to avoid Team Deathmatch for a while. Focus more on objective-based playlists, that's one of my secrets.

It's pretty much just a case of playing it a lot. There are little tips and tricks you can pick up, but mostly you just need to keep at it if you want to get considerably better. Learn the map layouts, perfect your class and generally just get quicker on the trigger.
I've played it more than I ever intended to, and I've just seemed to get worse at it, to the point where at the end of the day I was actually getting 0 kills. literally, nothing.
Used to happen to me in CSS - you'll need to pace yourself a little.

You should just watch good players pla and pick up some tricks from them, also it's good to remember the maps and work on your reflexes as you go along.

- Set your control scheme to Tactical, this changes crouch/prone to R3 instead of B which allows you to drop-shot much faster and line up your shot at the same time.

- Stick to the edge of the maps to reduce the chance of being shot in the back or having enemies spawn behind you

- The FAMAS has to be the most "noob-friendly" gun in the game, whack Perk 1 - Ghost and a silencer on it and off you go!

- Another good weapon is the Stoner83(?) just buy all the LMG's and you'll unlock it for purchase.

- Put your sensitivity up to at least 6 or 7, it may feel weird at first but will help in the long run.

Play it lots. The way I got good at shooters is by playing a crapload of WaW (still my favourite shooter bar Conker's Bad Fur Day), and there isn't really any shortcuts. I would say WaW is better for it because there a fewer douchey way to kill people.

Practise?
The same way you get better at anything else.
10.000 hours is what you have to pour into something to master it. So get going.

I think the better question would be, Why do you want to get better at Black Ops?

SpyPlanes Help to find enemies and if you have hardline it only take 2 kills, to heck with the RC car and use the SpyPlane you might not always be able to find someone but your team could and inturn help with a Overall Win. (BlackBird is even better if you have the skill or the luck with a care package)

If you played enough you know where enemy players love to run to or sneak up on - Use claymores and lay traps or if need be Motion Sensors and get the drop on players.

Take some time and use the Combat Training or better yet Get into a private match and explore the maps - one time I did several private matchs with buddies to just test cover and gun firepower, (What could stop bullets and what could not)

If you play Ground War or Domanation, Try "Defending" a certain area. Some might call it camping but you are truly defending an area so it makes it easy for you to pick off people that try to run toward a capture point...
(Personally I love useing G18 for this ^__^)

Other than that, play and play but overall just have fun... dont go into or develope that "Im training for MLG" mindset. *shutters*

Simple tip: use your ears. I'm not sure how sounds work out in Black Ops, but they help a lot in a bit older CoD games. If you hear someone try to anticipate where they are and aim down the sight before you pop out around a corner to shoot them. Also, try to find a weapon that feels best. For example, I just love the way MP5SD handles in CoD4 and I just unlocked MP44, which feels like an excellent gun. You should also use the perks to iron out your disadvantages.

Also, play a lot and learn from it. Watch what others are doing, aside from, y'know, campers and such...

I just pulled a 13-6 kill-death ratio in Combat Training on Regular difficulty.

if i could play like this on the online i'd be fine, but as soon as i go online my aim suddenly falls to shit and people start respawning right in front of me.

not to mention I'm only level 3 on online, so i only have the shitty pre-made classes to choose from.

I really don't want to sound like a dick, but honestly, it seems like FPS just isn't the right genre of game for you. Everybody has genres that they aren't rly good at. I am pretty decent at FPS and RPGs, but completely suck when it comes to fighting games (except Smash Bros.)

TL:DR find a different game.
