How do people believe this?

Now, it may just be the people on my friends list, but everyone on Facebook seem to think Facebook is shutting down at 11pm because of the following chain message, which I have not altered.

"This coming 11pm,all facebook account will be CUT. This is according from the creator of facebook. All the activities that was being done this time will be delay SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIE NCE. To save you're facebook accounts, please forward this message to 25 FB users for us to make sure that you are active user of FB. If can't pass t...his to 25 users you're account wil be cut without any hesitanc"

Now, I noticed the following problems with this message. First of all, that breaks so many rules of grammar. Second there are random spacings. Third, wrong form of your. Fourth, it would be sent to our inboxes from Mark himself. Fifth, they wouldn't abbreviate it. Sixth, random elipses shows it's a chain letter. Seventh, no creator of a site that makes billions every year would shut it down, and if he would, he wouldn't have his members send a "prevention" message to each other. Eighth, hesitance is spelled wrong. Ninth, Facebook should be capitalized. Tenth, wrong form of your again. Eleventh, "Sorry for the inconvience" would be in italics, underlined and in bold, not in capitals.

Has anyone else seen this? Also, how do people so willingly believe things with no basis in truth?

Because people don't stop and think when they read most of the time. Its a chain letter, a lot of these things play on fear or sympathy to get people to use them and in just one sucesful attempt, it reaches several other people.

Just look at E-Mail Scams, a lot of them don't even make sense, let alone fool people. All it takes is a few rereads of what you're dealing with and most people do manage to avoid them, but there are the occasional idiots who just don't use their brains.

there is no alternative theory given so people will believe the first thing they hear. I figure that you could tell a person that the earth is flat and they wouldn't argue unless they heard from someone else that it is round.

Haven't seen it before, no. Not that I believe it at all...it's gibberish and clearly a chain letter. Like the one that I keep getting on my PSN mail.

*Stop sending me mail saying I have to forward it to x number of people you hooligans*

Twelveth: Why would you need to send it to 25 people when 1 would suffice in showing that your still active.

Well, I've just logged back into my Facebook and I had one update message. From August 2009. XD

So, no I haven't seen this. And as for why they are willing to believe it?

I always used to get chain messages telling me that a creepy little girl was going to materialize out of the wall and kill me if I didn't forward it to 10 more people.

I ignored it.

And I died later that night. So always believe everything you read on the internet.

For the safety of the children.

I havent seen that one, but I've seen the one about sending to 10 friends so that you can keep your account because its something about too much space being taken up.

And I dontk now if people really believe them. I think more then likely they just like to pass it along and see what kinda reaction they get out of it.

Actually, that's sorta funny. I'd like to think that most people to re-post that realise it's fake.

Oh my God, that's so sad. Is there anything we can forward on your behalf?

It should be in any day now. You know those Nigerian Princes are good for it.

I know Snopes says it's false, but don't believe it. The two-striped telamonia spider is truly the greatest danger we face in the world today.

Saw something like this a couple weeks ago or so, friend of mine fell for it.

This was the result.

Nothing that funny but...well, for me, knowing the person made it funnier.

No offense, but if the people you know believe this... they're fuckin' idiots.

Just sayin'.

This is the most obvious chain letter I've ever seen. It's just so... awful.

Well its not too hard to believe that people actually believe this. Facebook is mostly used by people who aren't really internet savvy. They just like it as a way to get in contact with their friends, show off their pictures and a quick way to spread news. So many of the people that use it don't know much about the internet or even grammar... They don't go on many internet forums and they probably just use the internet for facebook, youtube and maybe buying shit.

They see a message like this and they aren't really going to be able to figure out that its just a spam message. So in fear of their account they'll do it. Are these people stupid? No, they aren't stupid, their just not savvy enough to know what this is. If you don't use the internet for much more than social sites (like fb and twitter) or watching youtube vids then you're not really going to pick up on stuff like this.

To be fair, these are also people who use Facebook.

Again, 'nuff said.
Because using a large social network = stupidity right?

Well then throw me in with the stupid crowd because I use it and I find it extremely useful. Specially now people mostly have those I phone things. You can get in contact with people on the go without having to phone them. You can quickly find out about the local goings on or what's happening with your friends... I think its a brilliant piece of kit if you're the social type or if you have quite a lot of friends or family that use it.

It also helped quite a lot with college too.
