I hear if you play dark souls with the pendant and don't light any bonfires, Gwyn will grace you with 10,000 posts on the Escapist.

Having a really boring but well paying office job for several years boosted my count quite a bit.
Oh good, then I am well on my way.

It's easy to give your opinion on anything when you're bored.
Pretty much this.

My post count comes from me sitting in college classes that were much too easy for me.

I don't play forum games, I don't really participate in forum groups, mostly I just post in any thread that seems even remotely interesting to me.

I wouldn't sweat your post count too much dude. I've been here for something like 5 years now and just cracked the 3k mark a few months ago. Though I did used to care since I was going for the Neo badge, but then I tripped up and said some regrettable things very late one night when I was tired and in a bad mood. Though frankly my activity has dropped over the years as forum moderation has grown tighter. Things used to be far more relaxed around here and the occasional snide remark towards another user wasn't met with mod action; people also just weren't as hostile towards each other.

Then there was Ultrajoe, The Thread Culler, who kept the forum clear of constant Vs and repeat threads.

*shrug* When I find something interesting or that I think I can contribute to, I post. That's the long and short of it, really. Of course, I'm not terribly concerned with a high post count. It'll happen when it happens and I'd rather not burn out getting there. (Yes, I know my post count isn't terribly high. Figure it was worth saying anyways :p)

I used to have a post count of over 30k on a forum for a MMO back when it was online, (Star Wars Galaxies). The primary reason my post count went up massively initially was because my daughter used to keep me up all damn night when she was a baby so I would post there while trying to rock her to sleep and such.

Then later on I became a community representative called a senator which caused me to need to post a lot. That and general any topic there was amazing for just shooting the shit with people and screwing about.

Forum Games and User groups will do the trick. There are a lot of interesting people here that I am friends with and I can get into a few hour long conversation with them. Posting in the forums won't really get your post count up that fast since you usually only post once per thread unless someone quotes you and then the conversation or debate starts and then the post count starts to raise faster.

You hit the nail on the head there. Forum games and user groups. That's really all there is to it.
This is slightly off topic but I love the edits you made to your avatar. I caught myself staring at it in awe for a few seconds.

User groups boost post counts? Huh.

OT: It really helps if you're trying to avoid something constructive.

What I don't understand are the people who have been registered on this site for several years and have under 100 posts.
I would probably get the record for least posts in 5 years while still being on the forums every day. I really like this place, I just don't have much too say.

I had far too much free time, and I was entertained by Forum Games for a few years. Those silly diversion account for pretty much all of my posts. Enough banal bullshit has flown through my fingers to drown half of a decent sized town!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing I've never seen my post count go up from User Group posts.

Just say something that agitates someone, no not a troll post just something that is true but is bound to bother someone.
So far I've gotten flack for saying "I think Ocarina of Time was not "the best game ever", probably one of the worst Zelda titles" and usually you'll get involved in an argument with an over zealous fan of the game where despite your post being an opinion, you're the idiot because the game is great regardless of what you think. (it's not).

Any opinion will do, people get angry quickly for very simple silly things and you may find yourself in a discussion or argument.

I haven't even cracked 100. And I lurk in the forums everyday. Not even a shy guy..just usually find that my opinion's already been voiced.

Most of the people I see with huge post counts are the kind of people who post multiple times in a single thread. Whereas I tend to just post once, and leave. The main reason I do this however is because whenever I do post something either it goes completely ignored or someone replies just to disagree with me and I can never be bothered to start an argument.
