How do you afford your games?

So today while sitting down and paying my car bill and insurance I had a thought about the Escapist. For days now I have read nothing more than what new games people are going to buy come fall, and i wondered how do you afford your games? The last game i bought new was Shogun 2 Total War and thats it, I find myself playing games like Age of Empires and Medieval 2 Total War, and Team Fortress 2. I cant seem to find the money to buy all these new games, and also have a problem with spending 50-60 dollars on new games. So, in all how do you afford your games?

i rarely buy games and when i do i wait until the prices has gone down and only get games i'm really interested in. probably get 1, maybe 2, games a year

No, just frugal spending. Luckily I don't own a car so that's a big chunk of money I say. Unlucky because I now live in the boondocks and the nearest retailer is a 20 minute drive away.

Steam sales (and sometimes sales on Amazon or other places) and a lot of patience. I'm perfectly ok with waiting anywhere from 6-24 months to get a game for $5-20 instead of $40-60, or $1-5 instead of $5-20 for the ones that start out cheaper.

I got around £200 for both Christmas and my birthday. I just whittle my money down getting games I like and getting Microsoft Points.

Though this'll probably change when I finish college, then I'll get a job (hopefully) and start paying for my own food and clothes and stuff rather than leeching off my parents.
I don't think it'll be a major shift, considering all the games I'm regularly playing these days are from 6 months ago at the earliest.

I'm having a part-time job while I study, it can sometimes be very difficult to find time enough to: Study, work, homework, social interaction and of course gaming.
But i can manage.

When I was a kid, it was birthday/Christmas presents and special treats. Then when I was at uni, I took advantage of my student loan and money my parents gave me for food. They gave me more than I needed so I spent the rest on games, CDs, comics and tattoos (yeah, I'm a bad man). The same will be true come September since I get another year of student loans for my teacher training course.

But, tbh, most of my money goes on comics and CDs nowadays. The only game I'm buying between now and Xmas will be Arkham City. I love the first one so much I'm actually gonna shell out for the collector's edition.

I live in Denmark and pay 500 to 600 danish kroner for new games, which can be estimated to around 95 to 115 US dollars.

(The danish krone is worth about 25% more than a Swedish krone)
