I for one send the prospectives through a deadly obstacle course that extends around the world. I would tell you about the obstacles, but you might yet be future prospectives. Consider yourselves fortunate if that is the case.

In all earnestness, I decide my friends because they and I have similar interests.

My Friends need to be loyal, and they always show their friendship through:

Kind words and Gestures. What did you think I was going to say?

Friends list friends or real life friends?

For friends list friends I look for commonalities somewhere.

For real life friends it's mostly a web of friends knowing friends and we all meet one day and become friends that way

I don't give them a rating based on certain criteria. It's as simple as actually liking people!

If I don't wake up with blood on my hands and a bent tuning fork in the morning, we probably get along great.

I don't think I decided my friends, they just kinda happened. You know, like "Oops you're pregnant", but not as bad.

Im the type of person who takes about 5 minutes to know whether or not i will get along with a certain person or not. Needless to say im very picky, i take an over all measure of attitude, similar interest, and views on things.
This is about the same as me. I get along much better with girls than guys though. Probably because I tend to be a bit nicer to girls (that pedestal thing...). I tend to be overly up front when meeting people. I'll act out much more than I normally do with my friends. The way I see it is this: if they like me as loud, rude, and obnoxious, then they'll like me as I am.

similar interests and a decent conversationalist, that's the first step.
and then whether or not they can earn my trust keeps them there, or not.

if they make me laugh that's always a big plus. :D
