So, I've noticed more and more that I'm slowly starting to develop an ego about my writing skills. It's still very minor, but I'm noticing it's there.

And I don't want it. xD

So, how does one go about deflating their own ego?

Always remember there are better writers out there. And compared to them you may as well be writing a children's book.

Or you could put your work out on the internet and have us destroy it one word at a time. Whatever works.

Hm, that's always a good point. xD; I feel stupid that I didn't really think of that before.

Fail.

Write something you think is good, submit it for publishing. You'll get rejected more times than you can count.

I find that peer review is a great way to bring one down to earth. Whenever I am working on a project I always tackle it in small chunks; having someone read through the portion that I finished and calling me out on something that I may not have noticed prevents me from making really dumb mistakes.

Since when are children's books - real children's books mind you not Dora goes to X but like Beatrix Potter or Dr. Seuss - considered bad? It may not be literary masterpiece but it certainly has charm of it's own.

I was referring to the crappy ones, like Dora and all that.

Ask for honest opinions of your work, including criticism. Having a big ego isn't necessarily bad; only when it's unjustified.

Or you can do what I do and pretend that no matter what I do, I can do better. Strive for improvement always.

Well chances are you are completely untalented. You think you are a good writer? Then why the hell are you not published! You muppet! You are nothing in the realm of the writer! You make other writers sick!

Haha, what was just said was a lame attempt to deflate your ego. Jokes aside, I don't know and it is probably a good thing you are confident. Just as long as you don't go around acting pompous, smug or pretentious.

:)

Just think of Eragon.
I'm a little confused on this one. Care to explain it? xD;
Hello again!

Eragon is...a fantasy fan fiction written by a teenager whose dad happens to own a publishing company. It's a Mary Sue story. Main character finds dragon egg, becomes dragon rider, becomes elf. I read the first and second book several years ago, and the only character that I thought was a realistic protagonist was the main character's brother.
