Hmm. I've only really realized this now, but everyone is so horribly pessimistic about the future in the Escapist. So horribly depressed you all are.

Nonetheless, technology will continue to advance at the steady state it's been going at, namely, miniaturization. Things getting smaller and smaller, people getting interconnected through the internet, and things basically being easier for everyone involved. Human nature will continue as it always has, being a mix of what society would say is good and evil. However, the form of this will change, as with every generation, finding a new outlook on how to express the inherent grayness of human nature. We won't become a utopia, but is is highly unlikely we destroy ourselves. At the very least, the people who are in the position to do so aren't stupid enough to do it. The masses are ultimately meaningless in this situation, besides the whole public opinion thing.
Yep. I hate how everyone is so depressing on this forum. It also seems like in every other thread someone has given up hope for humanity.

OT: About the same. They'll be new problems and old ones will go away. Things will change cosmetically and perhaps things will be sleeker. Also i'm 100% sure that there will still be people who keep claiming that the END is right around the corner.

We will replace ourselves with a society of peaceful androids (not the smartphones) that will be capable of interstellar sub-light-speed space-travel. They will terraform barren planets and settle plants and animals there.

Hmm. I honestly can't recall if it's always been like this, and I matured a bit more to see it, or if it's a recent thing. What do you think? You've been on this site longer than me.

So, Canadians are living in the future already? AWESOME! I'm off to go use my hovercar!

OT: In the Future, everything, work, entertainment, all of that will be delivered via an onlive like system.

We'll probably be fine, there wont be a nuclear war any time soon, its just not that effect to achieve your military goals as it just ends up in both countries ending each other. After watching the news today it looks like Kim Jong Ill (tbh I cba to read up how to spell or say it, the little bugger doesn't deserve it) is re-entering disarmament discussions.

More financial power will move to the east and the west will become poorer. No real biggie, just suck it up.

We'll probably find a way to safely harness hydrogen power so we'll be alright on the energy front for a good while.

And if the Arab Spring and the London riots have taught us anything its that governments should obey their people like never before because a societies will can change in an instant and spread like wild fire into an unstoppable amount of pressure on its leaders.

Finally, eventually some government (probably the US,Russia or China) will set up some form of space station on another land mass in our solar system, and then, once we find a while to deal with the time it takes to travel (if we ever do) from our solar system to another then we'll spread out like Japanese knot weed throughout our galaxy and move on from there.

All in all I think we have a bright-ish future ahead, don't know why everyone thinks we'll all kill each other, probably too many computer games / movies :p But on the whole the people with the nuclear weapons seem to be successfully using them as deterrents.

This is just a thread where you say what you think will happen at some point in the future (preferably not say 5 seconds, 'cause that's just silly). Any point in the non- near future, for example where you see yourself in ten years, or what will happen after you die. Not 'in 5 minutes I'll be getting a glass of coke HUR HUR HUR'.
Personally, I believe that if we haven't all killed each other in some Fallout- esque nuclear war, society will have descended to the point where 'text speak' has become main language (this is say 100 years in the future). For example, 'u' has replaced 'you', 'gr8' replacing 'great' etc.

Your turn.
You have just touched upon what it would take for me to initiate a killing spree ending with "and then he turned the gun on himself."

Well we're making some interesting advancements, apparently. I doubt the future will be as grim as people say. I think it'll be much like it is now, except more advances. Laser guns and hover cars (like speeders, not flying cars) won't be invented, they're far too inefficient. Flying cars just wouldn't work. I'm still dreaming about a holodeck, though.

America will fall, China will rise. Don't get me wrong, it's gonna take fuckin ages to happen, and America will not stop being a major player in the world. Just saying the American hegemony is rapidly becoming history (a lot of people say its already gone, but I reckon that's really debatable). China, will probably slowly get louder and louder and a little more aggressive, but unless you live in Taiwan or India I wouldn't worry to much (which, knowing the Escapist, a few people probably do, so please, I have said this before but people have taken it the wrong way, please don't take it the wrong way).

Aside from that the world will carry on, hopefully getting a little better, a little happier, a little wealthier. Yeah there's a lot of poverty and conflict and shit, but we've pulled a lot of people out of it in the past, so I'm cautiously optimistic about the future.

Oh, and I will lead army of robot pirates on a bloody rampage that will see me made king of some criminal underworld, that may or may not pull the strings on the rest of the world.

I expect console wars to end as media technology merges into a single 'Entertainment Unit' that functions like a TV/computer/stereo/game system/smartphone. They will come in home and portable versions that connect wirelessly. Instead of console wars, we'll be fighting over which company's EU has the best processors or proprietary software or projection radius or what-have-you. (I mean, smartphones are basically already there, it's just a matter of them becoming more powerful as home technology merges together.)

The world will be in a Deus Ex period, exept their will be two factions in the world fighting over land, power, oil and money with technology, and then the aliens will attack and most of us will die and a small faction in the world somewhere will come together, get more weapons and fight and beat the aliens, and little we realise but that is only one race of aliens and more will come to us, some we will allience ourselves with, some will be enemys, the world will unite under one banner and we shall fight a universal war.

Sounds about right.

human augmentation, human genetic engineering, deciphering human brain and coping it on to lasting container (artificial brain),artificial intellect helpers. i hope they will develop it while i'm still alive. human body too fragile too undeveloped (unevolved) to keep up with progress of human technology i say why wait for evolution when we will be able to take control of it?
oh and of course colonisation of other planets, generational ships to venture forth seeking new planets, big city-space stations. Earth alone is single point of failure, one big enough asteroid or war will wipe out human civilisation in order to survive we must spread far and wide.

1) Futurama/Jetsons happens. This is the ideal future.

2) Overpopulation forces us to colonize other planets in order to survive. That's the Red Faction Guerrilla/Halo alternative, which is overall not that bad.

3) We screw ourselves over with an apocalypse. Worst possible scenario, although I hope it's more of a 'Dead Rising'-esque situation rather than a 'Fallout'-esque situation. At least zombies can't kill you once you've shot them in the head, and they don't make scorpions larger than buses.
