Collector's Edition's are special versions of a game that are usually only available at launch. They often offer collector's items, such as figurines or replicas of items in the game. The prices for these are often way higher than the "standard" edition, sometimes ranging to $100. Almost every major release has one, to the point where Saints Row IV even had a Wad Wad edition costing $1,000,000 in a parody of these.

What are your thoughts on these, Escapist? Cool stuff, blatant cash grabs, or something else?

Would this [http://www.labelgames.com/games/Page_584/img_b1.jpg] count?

I'm not normally a fan of "Super Collector's Editions". I don't feel like most games, even some of my favorite games, are really worth that level of appreciation. I think the only Collector's Edition I've spent money towards was for the new Longest Journey game. For years I'd thought the series was going to remain completely and utterly dead, with the story incomplete. When I saw that Kickstarter project was back I was... very close to tears of joy.

It's my view that to own a Collector's Edition for a game, it ought to be something that is very dear to one's heart, not a mere wall trophy to add to your collection.

I like the stuff, especially when they have something like a statue or high-quality map. But the ones that give in-game content I find pretty lacking. Also, I really don't get when new IP's get collectors editions. They are new and don't have a established fanbase yet.
