Dragons = CLICHé AS F**K!!!

Sry, but just IMO :/

In just about every fantasy world you will find a dragon, something that resembles a dragon, or a reference to dragons. Not saying dragons are bad, just cliché.

As much as I like fighting Dragons in games, I'm starting to get a little tired of them. It seems like every game that is even remotely fantasy has to have a dragon fight these days... Ehh, maybe Skyrim and it's randomly generated Dragon battles were breath some fire [Ha, see what I did there :)] back into Dragons for me.

i LOVE dragons, but when i think of a dragon, i think about three things: majestic wise creatures, serpent majestic wise creatures(Chinese, Asian stuff), or really annoying gimmicky dragons that just ruin the entire idea of dragons.( hate those)

i have read the first three books of the inheritance cycle(eragon, etc.) and am currently refusing to go tho the library until it has a good dragon novel.

dragons are just plain AWESOME.

nothing more to say on the matter.

P.S. if you hadn't started this forum topic i would.

Dragons are kind of cool if done well. However, I seem to be getting bored of dragons... It's always the same stuff over and over again. Why do they have to have wings? Why do they have to breath fire? Why do they have to have scales?

Dragons are like guitar solos. They need a proper build-up, should't be overused and need to be awesome. When those criteria are met they kick serious fucking ass.
Holy yes

I don't like it when they hold themselves as better than man or elves and other fantasy races. I'll hack their head off if so.

I love dragons. They're my all-time favorite mythological creatures. Basically any kind, too, though I prefer western dragons to eastern ones.

Personally I like dragons, but only when they're done a certain way ... When I think dragon I think of a majestic, prideful looking beast.
And voiced by Sean Connery !!

Dragons can inspire both terror and awe.

I can't say I apreciate dragons very much. From the few books ive read which involved dragons, none portrayed them in a unique way befitting to their.. well, uniqueness. They always have a very "human" character. Either greedy hoarders or wise ancients. Always very involved in the doings of man. Anthropocentrism strikes me as unimaginative.
Atleast, thats my experience on the issue.
You need to read more Terry Pratchet.

As for dragons, for a while I didn't like them much in games as they always seemed weaker than they should be. Monster Hunter is the only game I feel did dragons (and other giant creatures) properly, because you learned to fear them. They really were all powerful badasses, and the only way you could ever beat them was to study them, and then masterfully dodge every attack they made against you before waiting for the perfect moment to chip just a small amount of health from them. One mistake and you're torn to pieces. To this day I have never come close to defeating a Tigrex.

I hope Skyrim manages to capture the fear and respect that dragons should demand, but I doubt it will.

I don't know, I love the way they look, especially the wings, but beyond that, there isn't much in general. If done well, they can work as beasts, as well as ancient, majestic and wise creatures.

Eh, I'm indifferent towards them. I don't hate them, but if prefer other fantasy creatures to them. Perhaps its simply because they are used so often that I don't find them as appealing. That being said, a dragon can still be interesting. It's hard to fuck up giant fire-breathing lizards, especially when there's such a wide variety of them to choose from.

No fantasy creature can rival the Kraken though. It simply can not be beat.

I like D&D/Pathfinder's dragons: there are a variety of them and have the ability to use magic; heralded as the original practitioners of magic.

Otherwise, I find some fantasy fiction writers to use them as one-dimensional antagonists.

I love dragons, but they have to be done right. Certain incarnations of dragons are just wrong.

I do enjoy a good dragon. That might be why I like using Myrh so much in Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, she turns into a giant dragon and turns her enemies into bbq. I'm more partial to the Japanese/Chinese style dragon.
Truly a fearsome creature, it fly's through the air without the use of wings.
Me too. I love the oriental style dragon.
I'm particularly fond of Shenron here:
