How do you feel about online trophies?

As in trophies or achievements that require you to play multiplayer to get. Personally I don't mind them if they are not too hard to get, but I wish they weren't required towards a Platinum. Let alone the fact that some are impossible since online on older games get shut down, some people just do not have internet.


So what are your thoughts? Should they count towards Platinums? Do you just hate them in general?

Same as I feel about trophies in general which is basically that they are a blight on gaming. I have no real special detest for them over any other of the pointless trophies.

I'm not really a completist when it comes to Achievements , so I don't care about multiplayer achievements. The only thing I dislike is a game makes it too difficult to get 300 achievement score, (Fuck Max Payne 3) I just don't feel as satisfied when I look at a number less than 300.

Not a big fan of online trophies, for the same reason I'm not a big fan of exclusive online content. It's not even about how good your internet connection is or isn't. Sooner or later servers are shut down (ala Borderlands), and that content becomes lost forever. I'm not trophy-crazed or anything but a game's content shouldn't have a statute of limitations, you know?

I dislike multiplayer achievements that specifically require you to be in an online match (usually in some category).

Multiplayer achievements like the DLC map ones in Halo 3 to get the skull or do something on that map (without playing some specific game mode) are fine. I don't like them on principal because (especially with consoles), once the servers go off you won't be able to get "Game Completion" or "Platinum".

If you make it so DLC and Multiplayer achievements don't count towards the completion, then I'm fine with them existing (even if I have to look at the blank spots when looking back).

Hate them with a passion, for I am a platinum-seeking gamer. "Play a single round of this or that," is fine because they just want you to test it out. Or even online co op ones are good. But these:

I think one of the Tom Clancy games, I think it was GRAW 1 had an ahchievement for being the highest player in the world... yeah fuck that.

I don't play multiplayer so they can go get bent for all I care, except for the ones in tacked on multiplayer modes. Those can be sodomized by demons then be thrown into a fire.

I'm not a fan of achievements or trophies at all. However, the examples you gave seem to actually be examples of trophies or achievements done well, not poorly. What's the point of receiving accolades for doing something that everybody has done? Being the best in the world is an achievement. Being in the top five of all time is an achievement. Getting ten kills in a game where everybody gets ten kills in the first hour is not in any way an achievement.
