How do you game?

Hey, sorry if this topic has been done before. I did a search, but didn't see anything like it recently.

So how do you like to game, Escapists? I don't mean difficulty or strategy. I'm talking about how you like to situate yourself. Do you have a favorite chair? A lucky controller? Certain pre-game rituals?

Personally, I'm generally sprawled out on my bed with my laptop open on my lap, just in case I need to look something up or want to take a quick break. I used to have a soda and some snacks within arms reach, but I'm trying to lose weight, so I've cut back on that.

I don't really have any pre-game rituals, though I do prefer to use my Arkham City controller as often as possible. No superstition or anything there, I just like the way it feels in my hands.

Usually, sitting near a table, and with a cup of tea or coffee beside me.... other than that, not much else. The only time I did som rituals before was when playing Amnesia- turn off the lights, put the headphones on etc.

I got some rituals for when playing portables I ALWAYS use headphones
and when I'm gonna play on my consoles I ALWAYS turn on the TV

...okay, in all seriousness, I just turn on the TV, turn the volume down to about '7' or so, scoot the chair back, and play. No chair is involved if it's the Wii. Not because of the motion controls, but because there is no chair in my little sister's room (that's where our Wii is kept; she's cool with it).

I don't eat food while gaming, but I may have a mug of fruit juice on a nearby table.

Depends on what I'm playing... and I mean that on many levels:

PC or console?
Strategy or FPS
RPG or hack n slasher

For the most part, though, I have one chair for the PC and one for my console, a pint glass full of water close at hand and prior to a battle or what will probably be a difficult-ish fight, I'll crack my knuckles and twiddle my fingers and proceed to kick ass.

usually sat on my arse on the settee whether its PC or Console gaming as they are set up around me if for some reason I am away for a long time and am playing on the PSP or DS I usually just sit on a chair near a plug socket. I dont have any rituals unless its a karaoke or dancing game then I have to drink 10 pints first.

I make sure my girlfriend is happy before I start gaming. This is easily accomplished by being responsible (basically doing any daily household chores first) and asking if there's anything she'd like to do (watch a show/movie, go shopping, etc).

Anyway, assuming I am about to sit down and game, I don't do much besides getting a drink. Often it's a pop, but lately just water. Throw on the headset and away I go. Unless it's on my PS3, then I just turn the volume down so it's not going to be too annoying.

I don't really have any particular rituals

I do tend to sit in the same seat most of the time, but I'm not sure you'd call it a favourite chair - it's just the best placed for the surround sound

I'll also often have a drink while I'm playing - generally coffee if it's earlier in the day, or a glass of wine (or sometimes a beer) if it's the evening

I have a nice little setup. I have my computer right infront of me and my TV off to the side at a small angle. I can easily swivel back and force from facing the TV or comp. This way I can look up stuff if needed or just chat online while gaming.

on topic: Either on my couch with a laptop in my lap or on the couch in the basement with a controller in my hands. I miss having my rocking chair be downstairs.

A really comfy chair, an ample supply of beer in the fridge, and usually in pyjamas all saturday. I don't get the chance to game that often anymore, so I tend to play in very long bursts.

I have to move closer to the modem, because the wifi in my room is UNACCEPTABLE for gaming. And also, my room doesn't have any acceptable places for me to drop my laptop on. So, I move closer to the modem, get a chair, probably prop myself up with a pillow, and then play around with the tangled mess of wires until I can get it just right such that I can actually move my mouse around.

But that's for multiplayer stuff. If I can manage it, singleplayer games+in my room, sprawled on the bed=victory.

a beanbag so I can be a good distance to the screen (I hate being to far away) Idealy I prefer a desk/cahir set up but...eh

PC in my room, lights off. I like to use an xbox game pad for platformers and mouse and keybo for everything else. My xbox controller has a pink silicone cover, makes it really comfy to hold.

I also have an xbox and a wii but i just sit on my bed for those

I have a desk chair I like to sit in. I'm that much of a child that I find swiveling fun. Keeps me entertained on the loading screens. Sometimes I get too close to the edge of my seat and fall off though.
Curtains closed and lights off for maximum immersion.
