I go to a non-chain store and buy my records or cds, depending on what style of music i'm looking for (somethings are just better on vinyl).

CD's all the way, it just doesn't feel the same downloading songs, I need physical evidence of my support of the bands I like, plus, I feel the need for the entire album, non of that "a song here and there bullshit".

Buy Cd, Rip to computer (Mp3 format, highest bit rate)

Transfer to mp3

No i don't download alot, i may be in the dark ages, but i like to see a collection of cd's on my shelfs :)
This is what I do. Every track on my Zune has a corresponding album to go with it. If purchasing music online in digital format was significantly cheaper than getting a meatspace version, I'd probably consider it. As it stands, if I get an album I don't have to put up with most of the headaches that come with digital distributions.

intitle:"index.of" (mp3)

Punch this into Google along with whatever song you want to find. The mp3 can be replaced with whatever file type you're looking for. For added accuracy, use.periods.instead.of.spaces.in.the.title.of.the.song
*Gives nearby RIAA a veeeery nervous smile* B-but of course, this is not legal in the U.S. unless you already own the song.

Oh- also I like to hit up Newgrounds Audio Portal and OC Remix (moreso OCR). If I don't have a library of videogame music remixes handy, my life is void.

How else? Illegally online. Not like I have much of a choice. Most of my soundtrack is foreign and video game music. I'm not taking my time finding legal copies for sale in the States. Even Amazon has its limits.

Same here. That, and I'm paranoid enough to not download anything in case it leads to a copyright SWAT team bursting through my door.

Buy CDs, and rip them. I prefer having the real album sitting proudly on my shelf.
Donwload some tracks from legal mp3 sites, but never itunes cant stand the restrictive file formats used.
Used to pirate some music, but don't anymore and since then i have bought most the albums I pirated anyway so it's all worked out good right?...right? *runs away and hides*

I purchase the disc or if I know for a fact it's only one track I like I will download it from iTunes or a similar source.

Downloading music is legal in Canada :p
Man. What a country.

Also, no. I buy games out of moral obligation, but I can't say I feel the same about music. Unless it's very obscure and deserves further attention according to me. Unless it's REALLY obscure and I can't buy it at all and have to settle for ripping the songs of youtube videos.

In most cases, a CD is involved. I buy a lot of CDs and so do my friends who have a similar music taste to me, so we trade them arround quite a lot. I'm also a member of my uni's music library, which means I can take CDs out as often as I like for about £10 per year.

Occiasionally I will buy something through Amazon's MP3 download, because unlike iTunes, the files aren't locked, so its easier to send them to friends. This is mainly when getting it on CD would be very expensive/difficult.

I just listen to music on youtube, I occasionally convert them to MP3 if I'm going away somewhere.

Directly from the artists, either on gigs or through digital distribution or just simply ordering. That way i know the full amount actually goes to the artist i support rather than all those in between.

It depends. My parental's picky about stuff that I buy, so ordering online's out.
If I find the CD in stores and it's from a relatively obscure/struggling band, I'll buy it. Otherwise, I just look up the music on Blogspot. Even then I'll buy if I can find it.

well the Escapist wouldn't like me to talk about it... so I'll just say I like to buy the CD's of smaller bands when they need the money.
