You just kind of know, its like when you know you like a movie or a game, it might be immediately or after you spend enough time engaging in activity with it, its hard to say exactly when you will know it but you will know when you do.

For me it was a feeling I experienced that was unique to that person. We held a connection that we could tell how we feel without words through text message as well as in person.

You forget about your problems when in the presence of this person, and you smile at the thought of them when you're away. You stop thinking about yourself and your needs, and focus on making them happy, because that's what you truly want.

Someone with whom you can be yourself, where nothing feels forced and progresses naturally on both sides.

When you care about them for who they are.
When you think about them all day and night, unable to stop even if you try.
When you admire someone from afar but get nervous when talking face to face.
When you want them to accompany you through whatever life may throw at either of you.
When you can spend hours staring off into space wishing they where near you.
When you're happiness becomes a secondary concern to their's.
When you don't want to change a thing about them.
When you're willing to do anything to see them smile.
When you feel like you can tell them anything.
When you dream about them in a non-sexual way.
and for me
When you no longer care what society thinks of you for feeling this way, and gender ceases to be.

Inb4 some miserable sod leaves an emo comment and- Damn too late.

I'd say it's different for everyone else, and if I tried explaining it someone will say I'm wrong or whatever.
My boyfriend left me for a night and I didn't sleep a wink because I need him next to me. Even when we argued a few weeks back, he went to sleep on the couch and I told him to stay with me. The thought of him leaving me just terrifies me, so much so I'd try avoid arguments even if it's him in the wrong.
I didn't feel like this with my ex; I was with him for 2 years and it got to the point where I was making excuses so I only had to see him once a month. I was just staying with him out of comfort.

Ummmm....It's...not easy to describe. It's one of those things you have to experience for yourself to understand how it feels.

The closest I can describe is this. Just being with them makes you happy. Holding them close makes all your worries go away. When you feel like they are an extension of yourself.

Generic love songs suddenly all make sense.
Or at least, they all become tolerable, and they don't sound so vague and weird anymore.
