Recently, I've seen a ton of hate on the show that I personally really enjoy. I started thinking, "Am I the only only that actually likes this show?" So, how do you like Terra Nova? Do you think it's a Jurassic Park ripoff or actually a good show?
Just to pick up on your last point, the show has a budget of $4million per episode, most show are quite a bit less. If they spent any more money on it, the show would be more expensive to run than a small nation...IndomitableSam said:I started watching it when it premiered, watched the first few weeks, then a couple weeks ago the lineup changed and it conflicted with How I Met Your Mother and 2 Broke Girls... so I stopped. I actually tried to watch one of the episodes I missed this afternoon, but got about 10 minutes in and gave up. Got boring. The recent murder episode, I stopped just after the kid was about to take a drink to hear news about his girlfriend's possible coming over.
I may go back to it if it gets renewed, the budget may expand and the sets may grow from the tiny little ones they are now. The sets are so small and limited that that's one of the main reasons I stopped watching. It's an action show and is lacking the scope, and, well, the dinosaurs are a gimmick, they're not actually part of the main plot. It's frustrating. You don't see camera shots of the characters standing in a field, with a wide area behind them. And if you do, it's empty - stick a dinosaur or two in behind them to remind the viewer that it is 65 million BC or whatever.
... The fact that I've thought the series through enough to be able to list what I don't like means I care, but it's let me down. Which is upsetting. I was about 10 when Jurassic Park came out, and, as anyone my age will tell you, the movie was immense in every way and in how it affected us.
Terra Nova... leaves me a bit ragey because of what it lacks. Wish they would've taken cheaper actors and spent more on the sets, CG, and locale.
If it's 4 mill an episode, the sets should not be that tiny. More sweeping vistas and CG would make me appreciate the show much better. I just get a claustrophobic feeling in some scenes.WickedFire said:Just to pick up on your last point, the show has a budget of $4million per episode, most show are quite a bit less. As to the OT, I've seen the first few epsisode, and it's ok, not the best sci-fi ever, but still good.
I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you. I loved Stargate Universe. It had some great actors (Robert Carlyle was amazing) and I really think it got the feel of being stranded on ship lost in space. Some characters were perhaps a bit papery to begin with while others were really interesting. Most people who watched that show thought it would be just as cheese as the other Stargate series, but it wasnt and they left, alas. Might be you werent one of those and it just wasnt your cup of tea, and thats fine.Shadowkire said:The show is like Star Gate Universe set in Jurassic Park. If you haven't seen SGU, don't watch it I will summarize for you: A bunch of people get stranded and every episode a new problem arises that will either kill them all or kill just the important characters and they always avert disaster at the very last second, also the actors weren't that good. It got boring fast.
