Maybe the disk was in the machine and they moved/someone else saw the empty case and it gets thrown out. Though I don't understand why they'd throw it out on purpose. Oh wait what if (to save space) they moved it into one of those "20 Disks In A Case" thing.

I threw out all my old xbox game boxes ages ago. I keep all the discs in a leather wallet. Its not like im going to sell them because they are worth next to nothing and it saves room this way.
Should have Ebayed the cases im sure there's people stuck with just the disc that would have wanted em.

on topic: I Dont quite know only things I Can think of, Lost while the Disc was in the Console / PC, Damaged at home, Kids or it was used at the store but some kid dropped it and broke it so the store was forced to sell it as disc only.... or the store clerk stole the case for his disc only game and such the loop repeats lol

Basically, this except with all games.

I think it's a bit weird with new games but old ones, with next to no value, I can understand doing it.

I have about 400 dvds and they take up alot of space, for something as thin and small as a CD, so if you have a large game or a small area to store them it makes sense.

I don't even understand why there so big, look at music CD cases compared to game/DVD cases, there almost double the size in height and double the size in thickness.

Well to give an example of why someone might purposely throw out their case...

My game collection has grown so large that I simply don't have the space to store all my game boxes anymore. So since a few years ago I've started throwing away the boxes after a few months. The discs then go into a large CD/DVD multi-case and the manuals go into a seperate cardboard box. Once they go into 'the box' though I'd never dream of trading/selling them. IMO it just wouldn't be proper, as they're no longer 'complete'.

As for accidentally 'losing' boxes and manuals, you might be surprised just how disorganized and careless some people can be with their stuff. I know some people in real life who are a great example of this. When they get a new game, they insert the disc into the PC/console and then toss the box aside. The box usually gets buried under a heap of other junk. When they have to take out the disc because they want to put in something else, they simply put the disc down on the PC/TV/table, etc. It just gets left there until needed again.

By the time they might look for the box it's probably already been taken out with the trash. Still, these are the same kind of people who will poke around inside their PC with a screw driver because a bent DVD has become stuck in the DVD-ROM drive. So I think you get the idea... *rolls eyes*

Yeah, a lot of people keep games in CD folders to save space.

A lot of older PC games came in huge boxes with jewel cases and manuals. Long story short, I have a stack of jewel cases with CD keys and disk, manuals stored away somewhere and the boxes are nowhere.

The Times' Football Supplement: makes you impervious from losing *that*.

On topic: I could understand it if the boxes were made of cardboard (like the old Nintendo boxes of yore). However, in this day and age of plastic boxes, I don't think there's much excuse anymore.

because i guess some people like to keep all their games in one binder, then they decide to sell the games and they cant find the cases anymore

Well a lot of people take their games out of the case and just toss the case in a drawer. I used to constantly play Pokemon Platinum. The DS could just have easily been the case. Well, anyway I just put the case somewhere and now I can't find it. All my DS and GBA games are just sitting around without cases even though I know where the cases are except for Platinum.

I would never do that with my 360 games though. That could scratch a disc or something.

Because shit just happens.

In all seriousness, I have no idea. I think though when you buy a game and the store has made their own case that just says the name of the game on it, it's because the box they had for it was all fucked up, but I could be wrong.

Maybe if you keep all the discs somewhere else and you throw away the case because "you don't need it anymore"?
Just a guess.

With a poorly presented argument?

I used to throw away cases for my PS2 games, I have a big folder with DVD flaps where I put the games, so the cases seemed useless.

I don't do it with my 360 games, though.

I can't actually find my ME2 game case, despite the fact its almost certainly less than a metre away from me right now. My desk is a little messed up..
But yea, if I ever wanted to trade it in I would throw everything about until I found it.

Yeah, just look at the gamecube.
There the same size as the ps2, 360 and XBOX cases. PSX and PS1 had the right cases, there thicker to house the booklet but they were just tall enough the hold the disk.

Yeah, but PS2, 360 & Xbox cases are DVD size, and considering they contain DVDs, is slightly acceptable.

But gamecube used mini DVDs and still used DVD sized cases. There are mini DVD sized cases for mini DVDs. Still, I agree with PSX/1 getting the boxes right. PS3 are getting there I suppose, which is always nice to know.
