How do you play games?

The question is simple, do you take your time, explore the enviroment, think of strategy's(typo, but I'm not gonna go open up the dictionary for that...), or do you just run and gun trough the game(figure of speech obviously, I don't mean just first person shooters)? Or do you have your own style of how you play?

When I started gaming, I was more on the "just get trough the game" side, but now I really like to pay attention to every single detail of the game, exploring as much as possible, thinking of the best way to get from A to B, etc. It just adds to the game, you get more time out of it and its more fun.

I try to play it at a pace that, were it a movie, for example, would move at. I'll stop for a moment to enjoy scenery, I'll walk slowly down creepy corridors, and I'll storm through enemy lines like a madman. But I try not to stray far from the main story the first time round.

I try to beat it at a pace I feel like, and then replay it to explore the world if it is open, or just play levels I enjoy.

It depends on the game. For an FPS I'm generally charging through, trying to find my way to the next checkpoint. For an RPG I explore every nook and cranny in the terrain, hoping to find some awesome secrets or epic loot.

With a mouse in one hand, Keyboard in the other, and 2 six packs of Dr.Pepper at my side.

I do as much as I can the first time around, no matter how long it takes.

At first I just try to beat it, but afterwards when I'm on my second run through I take my time and explore.

Quoted for troofs.

this is exactly how I played Oblivion, for one. When exploring a deep dark cave or something, I kind of cautiously crept, yet I charged into enemies like Leeroy. I often miss many things my first time around, but I go back later, possibly after reading a guide for my second play through, and really explore, see what is out there.

*EDIT*

Depends on how much I like the game, but I generally take my time to check out all the extra bits, see if I can fling myself over walls I should be passing and generally trying to break the game.

An example from a popular (or at least famous) series is in the Halo games, where you could take most of the vehicles a long long way into the buildings instead of covering it on foot. Of course Halo 3 robbed me of my fun and inserted invisible vehicle walls at every door.

Depends on the game. Some need a run n gun play through to keep them exciting (Resistance: FoM)
some need you to take your time and soak up the atmosphere (Thief, Siren).

I mostly try to take it slow unless the game sucks and I just want to finish it to get the feeling that it wasn't a complete money waste.

it kind of depends on the game, the maker and the style..usually i go through gettiong used to certain places ((in RPG's)) then explore as i do the main story, and hit up all side quests i may come across, and for FPS, i like to figure best strategy after dying a few times while i look at the level layout...for online, me and my buddies get strategy's for each level, what weapons, what perks, where we move to, when we move, and formations...it doesn't usually work out too well, but we still try and do what we can...works best on a sniping map, get a sniper or two to watch the main areas, then have the others watch the sides and back

Well I try and do as much as possible in-game then if I want I'll do a second playthrough.
This is me in a nutshell. Sometimes this makes the second playthrough somewhat boring, but sometimes you'll find something in the second playthrough that you missed in the "thorough" playthrough.

Like an action movie. Before I rush in I pump my shotgun or reload my double Beretta's.

In RPG's I play as a serial killer and murder as many people as I can without getting caught. (Damn frosted flakes) I might just start playing Oblivion now...

In RTS's I turtle like heck, and always lose multiplayer. It's because my first RTS was on a weak computer and the lag made the game slower paced for me. The tanks feel to fast now. I also didn't know how to attack people, so I had to resort to bombs and area of affect weapons. Curse you Command and Conquer Generals!

In MMORPG's I play until I burn out and get bored, than come back every once in a while to show off my characters and do a little power leveling.

I don't know what's left...

OH...uh...Play through it on the Medium setting, switch to harder difficulty if too easy, and I explore, see what my limits are in the game, Distance wise mainly.

I'm a real explorer: I'll try and go everywhere, talk to everything and pick up as much stuff as possible - I just like soaking up the backstory and lore, it doth please me.

On my second playthroughs I try and play the game differently, i.e. different fighting styles etc., but I've yet to successfully finish an evil playthrough without some sort of anguished conversion to a saint after my very first evil choice.
