I just got called a cheater, a haxor and a nub all int the same minute. Why? Because of how I play the game.
See, im an environmentalist.
Pretty much the only thing that can go against what I call "methodist gaming"(those people who figure out the game and have all the calculations scrawled out somewhere and have all the gear in the game maxed out, you know what i mean)
I use the environment, the things around me, not the things im supposed to use like guns or swords. Those are for players with the skill to use 'em, i just end up hurting myself(it'd be more funny if it weren't true). No, no, weapons aint for me. I have to settle for a crappy physics engine.
Im sure you've all played a game where the physics are kinda messed(but when arn't they, really?) and have gotten killed not by the enemy ai, not by the guy standing behind you with a knife ready to take your equipment, but by a piece of flying debris. a tiny rock that managed to insta kill you even though you have on an over shield and 6 tons of armor(heres lookin at you halo) and can withstand a freakin attack by the(virtual)Gods themselves!. I was standing on the other side of that rock. I was the one that sent that rock flying at you. and now im standing(tea bagging) over your corpse and everyone is looking at me funny wondering if that was just a fluke. It wasnt. I dont care if ti doesnt say i got the kill. I know I did.

So, how do you guys play the game? are you a snipe show?(even if you're playing a fighter) Are you a griefer?(...i hope not) or are you the distraction?(i.e cannon fodder)
Im interested in the different playstyles you incorporate into your gaming lives, so dont be shy! SHARE!

I usually try to overwhelm or distract the enemy the enemy by either going to their base in the first few seconds (capture the flag) or trying to lure people away from a teammate doing something more important than me. I like being the support although most of the times it goes unnoticed but I can care less about that.

My playstyle is simple. Pretend it's 1347 and the Black Death is going around, and avoid other people accordingly. Single player only, and in the comfort of my own home, do whatever the hell I please with the game.

it depends what game ive got on my hands... say on mechwarrior, id be the heavy artillery, pelting people from far with lrm, or say in battlefield 1942, id get myself a panzer, sit on a hill and just pelt things from up there

but on western rpgs, i like to play the high dexterity-dodge characters
and finally, i like employing retarded strategies, like scv rushes

I like to sneak around. In CoD4, my team always did well, as I always stole capture points on domination. I wait until there is a big fight in the middle, and sneak to the other team's side and take that.

Also, sneaking means you can knife guys, which is always fun to do.

Crazy knife wielding psycho - I don't care you've got a fully automatic machine gun, I don't care you've already seen my approach, aimed and are opening fire, I'm still charging towards you with knife drawn...

..because in most games bullets only do damage, knives insta-kill and folk really don't expect you to come at them so shoot where they think you're going, miss or I take the odd hit but they go down, not me )

Ambushing when on defense, sneaking when on offense. Sniper is the preferable weapon.

The ambushing would be a lot more effective if it wasn't for the time limits that pretty much every shooter has.

I suck at online play, so i'm usually the "distraction".

Anything that the designers implemented is fair game, in my opinion. Even using physics against an enemy. it uses the same principle as running someone over in your warthog, so what's the grief?

I like to make things explode.

If there are bombs, I use bombs.

If there are grenades, I use grenades.

And if there is no weapon that causes explosions, then I shoot a barrel and make IT explode.

For RPGs I always like to raise my character to do the most damage possible, for example in KOTOR 1 and 2 I always liked to be the Jedi Guardian/Weapon Master/ Sith Marauder that dealt the most ridiculously high amount of damage with lightsabers or the Sith Lord and dealt extremly high damage with offensive force powers to everyone around me, also in Fable 1 I focused on dealing as much damage as possible with powerful heavy swords or hard-hitting spells

In shooters im kinda all-around, either going all-out offensive or with a more tactical approach for objective-based games

I'm the specialist role. That means counter sniping, counter vehicle, stuff like that. In VIP (HALO) I guard the VIP, protect the flag, etc. On the offensive, I cause as much confusion as possible, make the enemiy's life miserable, and let the rest of the team do the heavy lifting i.e. charge through the front while the others sneak around the back.

im usually gonna be in your face. If theres a huge battle, im usually the one in front, screaming the loudest. if theres a lull in the action, i make alot of noise and generally kick things around.
ill usually have the most kills and the most deaths, and im really crazy. like use a airplane to run you over crazy hehehe
