I sleep in a completely dark room completely quiet room, it?s all good. When I can't sleep I do what is called aggressive muscle relaxation (look it up its good, and if it doesn't exsist on the net PM me) and honestly you need to use your bed for only sleeping nothing else by the way.

Cannabis addiction. I don't so much fall asleep as pass out.
inb4 uneducated ramblings about how "weed is totally not addictive". It is... Cannabis addiction is a form of behavioural addiction rather than substance addiction. Similar to a pornography addiction or gaming addiction.

It works something like this:

Feels good + Negligible consequences = Tendency to do it again.
Repeated use + No reason to stop = Continued use.

Anyway... I care enough to leave it at that, and don't care enough to continue.

On topic, get to work Jenkins. The more exhausted you are either physically or mentally, the easier it is to sleep. Also avoid stimulants after say... 9pm.

There are night where I sleep less than 3 hours and there are nights when I sleep over 12 hours. It varies so wildly that it has become synonymous with many of my other thoughts and actions. Despite the implications... it really does not bother me too much. I do fine. :)

If it's that much trouble, just sleep every other night or something. Me, I can just lay there and fall asleep in around half an hour.

Like this: *headfallsonkeyboard* Zzzzzzzzzzzzz . . . .

I like it really cold in the room--that way I feel extra warm under my covers.

I've been having this same problem too lately so i feel your pain.

I usually result to benadryl for light cases, nyquil for heavy cases, and just giving up and staying up all night if it's pretty bad.

Gotta love college life!

Surprisingly well, of late.

When I was younger, I shared a room with my brother. Because it also neighboured on my parents' room, I couldn't do much but count sheep and maybe read. Didn't always work; I'd sometimes count hundreds of sheep or finish short books.

In high school, the tendency was to keep going until I just shut down. Not the best solution, but sometimes the only one.

Once or twice, I've taken sleeping pills. Most of my adult life, I've slept to a fan and/or music. I have a 900+ song sleep playlist on my iPod and a sound dock. Of late, I've not needed to fall asleep to music, though a fan is a necessity due to the heat (seriously, 80 degree days nearing October in Vermont? No. NO. Just no.).

These days, I drop off pretty easy most of the time. Which will probably end too soon. But hey.

For me awesome classical music and a glass of milk (optionally warm, depending on how bad it is) will usually zonk me out.

I just keep doing what I do until I feel too tired to carry on. I'm usually in bed anywhere from 11 pm to 3 am.

I can sleep at any time any where.

I can go straight to bed, and fall asleep

I can go take a nap, and fall asleep

I can get on the floor, and fall asleep if I want to.

If I've been awake for more than 12 hours, I can lie down anywhere and sleep. Although I can't sit and sleep, that feels weird to me.

I sympathise with those of you who have trouble getting to/staying asleep, I get incredibly irritated if I get woken up in the night or can't get to sleep (rare, but sometimes I can't stop thinking about a specific subject).

It might be possible that you just need less sleep than most people.

If there's anything I can recommend its not getting too hung up on sleeping. This'll only make you tense and decreases the chance of getting sleep. I really recommend against just lying in bed for hours until you sleep, since you'll start associating your bed with not sleeping. When you feel a bit tired, try just lying down for 10-15 mins. If you're still awake after that, go do something fun for at least a half hour, like play video games or reading or whatever. Then try again when you feel like it, again for 15 minutes TOPS. Rinse, repeat.

Lighting is an important part of the human waking cycle (as well as almost every animal). If possible, dim the lights in the evening. It's also best if you wake up when it's light outside: light will affect melatonine production and makes waking up a lot easier, even when you haven't had much sleep. In winter I recommend using one of those alarm clocks with built in lighting (Philips makes those I believe), it makes a world of difference.

Lastly I recommend getting regularity in your sleep schedule: wake up at the same time and sleep at the same time. You'll condition yourself into a day/night cycle that way.

The best thing though is not to worry about it too much. After all: everyone sleeps eventually!

I've never really had difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Very occasionally I'll have trouble (especially if it's hot and there's no AC), but as long as it's cool and I have lots of covers, I'm out like a light.

I can't sleep at all without pretty weighty covers. I don't know how people sleep with just a sheet. Even in summer, I have to blast the AC just so I can use enough covers.

I can attest that this is a bona fide solution to the problem.

I otherwise have little trouble getting to sleep on most nights, so long as I'm comfortable and clear minded. Taking around 20 minutes where you just completely relax, don't interact with a computer and perform complex mental and physical tasks, is a pretty good step in the right direction.

I just sleep. Get me horizontal and I'm out.

I should probably see a doctor about it.

Bahahahaha that's excellent. Brilliantly phrased...thanks, I needed a laugh.

OT: Ermmm I just sit there and read 'til I'm tired. And then read some more, hence my falling asleep at half four last night 0_O

Yeahh, I don't sleep too well.

i'm a bit of an insomniac too. the best thing to do is to tire yourself out during the day and try switching to decaf stuff. my sleep patterns are really strange. i sleep at night and then sometimes i sleep when i get home from college for a couple of hours.
