Huh, interesting. Seems the way I got used to is somewhat more common than the "correct" one.

For myself, I never learned to type with standard touch typing patterns, nor did I ever "figure out" the patterns I do use, I just sort of... do them. Things I've noticed about my own typing (when I actually thought about it) are that I use every finger, I don't always hit the same letter with the same finger. I also type shift and space only with my right hand, so my left hand does more letter-typing. I can type 100 wpm easily, and ~115 wpm under particularly good circumstances. My question marks and quotation marks a bit slow but I haven't felt the need to work on that (it's because I type them, right pinkie+right ring finger).

EDIT: I also only use the left alt and ctrl. When I rest my hands on the keyboard, my left hand is in the normal ASDF position, while my right hand has the pinkie on the right shift, thumb on the space bar, middle finger inbetween the O, L and P keys, and other fingers kind of floating around.

Index finger, but very fast. I type extremely weird. My left hand is fixed on WASD from obvious reasons and my right hand basically just uses the index finger. I still type pretty damn fast and accurately.

And no, I haven't looked at my keyboard in years, except for the flashy LCD screen.
Funny, that's how I type too, except I use my middle finger instead of the index.

So I pretty much just type it with my right middle finger.

Index for m and n and middle for u and i.

I had to check that by typing it in four different sentences.

However, when I type it, I use my middle finger for I and U, and my forefinger for M and N.
Thinking about it., this seems to be how I type minimum. Except I've just used my 'forefinger' to hit the U as well So... Yeah.

we'll have to consider a fourteen deep-dish pizas a bare minimum.

m - index
i - middle
n - index
i - middle
m - index
u - index
m - index

We'll... that's the minimum I could do for you! The bare minimum.

badly, unless I slow down, which actually, I bet this is common, my typing speed fluctuates a lot based on what I'm typing

Minimum

"M" = Index
"I" = Middle
"N" = Index
"I" = Middle
"M" = Index
"U" = Middle (the transition felt odd there)
"M" = Index

Minimum

My left ring finger uses the shift.

I use my index finger for N and M and my middle finger for U and I. That's the minimum amount of movement of fingers while still keeping my hand in a comfortable position.

I never learned 'official' touch typing, so while I do touch type, I have my personal style. I do use all my fingers, but mostly just my middle, index and ring fingers of both hands, pinkies and thumbs being just for Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Enter, the space bar, and one or two other keys.

When I want to type at my top speed (which I think is pretty good for an untrained person ? best was 95 wpm without mistakes on speedtest.10-fast-fingers.com/, although my average is more around 80-85) then I only really use my index and middle fingers, except for shift, space, etc. I don't know why that speeds me up, but okay.
