I still think this is a dishonest way of getting money
Anyone who is stupid enough to make this bet deserves to lose all their money. Maybe they'll come out a little wiser. Then again, probably not...
I know to you and me this wager is obviously one-sided in our favor. However that belief is on both sides for this wager. If someone has come to follow a great fallacy, it is not honest to take advantage of him. Ignorance is not grounds for punishment, but for education. He does not deserve to be taken advantage of. He deserves to be told the truth, and if he can't be open enough to understand what is true then he is a fool and will succumb to a fool's fate in time.

I do support education over exploiting people, but the worst sort of person are those who are ignorant and refuse to learn.

They SHOULD be exploited and without mercy.

I can understan where you're coming from with wanting to white knight for these people, but some people are beyond help and beyond pity. Besides, the person in question is already a less than honest one. He lost a bet, and welshed on it.

With the rash of apocalypse hypotheses (not theories, look up the difference abusers of that word) and so many people willing to give away their life savings because of said hypotheses, I figured I could make some wagers with people for the upcoming October 21st 2011 and December 21st 2012 dates to put myself through school. With my current lack of finding work and scholarships continuing to elude me, I figured this could be a good way since some people seem very willing to give away their money.

Now my problem is actually getting them to pay. I made this same bet in May for that apocalypse date and the person refused to pay up. So much for Romans 13:7-8, that selective interpreting cheat. Is there a way to get some sort of legal binding, like if I wrote up a contract and had a witness would that be enough?

Here's hoping I can get through school with this, anybody else who wants in on this, be my guest.
A wager as such cant be a contract so far as I'm aware as a contract is based on the concept of consideration (value exchanged). I Could be wrong as I dont know the case law or anything but from my little knowledge of contract law I dont think it applies.

Write up a paper then get a notary (My time to shine :D) Sign it with both parties and make copies.

Boom, legally binding. Also make sure everyone is 18+
You forgot; There needs to be a witness to sign it too. There must also be a Jew present to iron out any legal details. The last part was a joke.
