How fast can you type?

Today I got randomly talking with a friend of mine about how we learned how to type, and coincidentally we both learned from a program called All The Right Type as kids. I say coincidentally because he lives in Minnesota and I live in Alberta. I guess schools think alike? Anyways, we got bragging about typing speed and how we were speed demons as kids. Since both of us use the computer much more nowadays compared to when we were kids, I challenged him to a speed test, which is where I found this: http://speedtest.10fastfingers.com/

After 3 sets, my average speed was:
87.67 WPM
444 Keystrokes
87.67 Words spelled correct

This got me curious as to what kind of typing speed my fellow Escapists have :D
Go ahead and take the test (you don't have to log in or any bullshit like that). You should also take it more than a few times to get an accurate average. I'm also curious, who else had All The Right Type?

I only had the patience to do one set, got 70 wpm with no mistakes. I touch type, but I never learned to type using the standard home row system, so I just have some messy self-taught form that doesn't use my pinky fingers on letters at all, for example.

71 the first time.

76 the second.

That's enough for me. Fun test, though.

And yes, I used All the Right Type. But I don't use home row or anything like that. (I'm also in Alberta!)

Words per minute (WPM) 86
Keystrokes 444
Correct words 84
Wrong words 2

I use the home-row, pretty much textbook except for the fact that I don't use shift to capitalize, I use cap-lock instead. My teacher tried to get rid of this bad habit, but it was of no use.

MY KEYBOARD BE ON FIYAH!

How the hell can you guys type without using Home Row =|
I think my sensibilities would scream out in pain if I saw anyone type not using Home Row, lol (no offense intended!)

I have a friend that types in a modified Home Row stance where his fingers (left to right) are: A-W-E-V H-U-I-P.
I criticized him once for his wonky set up, and he casually typed 130 WPM... So whatever works I guess, lol.

It's late at night so I won't test it until later.

Bare in mind these tests won't be truly accurate due to who tired the various users are and the keyboards each are using.
I don't really care how exactly precise the tests are, I just want to get a ballpark number of how fast you fine folk finger the keys.

I'm a hunt and peck-er so my typing is rather slow. I've never learned to type "normally". My speed was only 32 WPM.

I reached 106 words per minute (on my second try mind you, first was 97) with an additional 3 mistakes.

Third try was(just so you don't think i'm lying, unless that link is borked):

I type fast and I hammer the keys when I do :/, which annoys a lot of people whenever I am talking over teamspeak or skype.

Oddly enough because i'm dyslexic I tend to find the biggest problem I have with typing tests is actually reading them correctly and fast enough.

I am the same, I do not use my little fingers to type. I learned to type purely through being sat in front of a computer as a child and expected to be able to keep up with other people.

My average typing speed when I'm actually trying to type fast, which is common for me, is about 105 average. Though it is not uncommon for me to make mistakes. Also, I have the same problem as the poster above me who said that people get annoyed at him when he types when using voice programs.

I admit though, when I'm typing and thinking about how to say something, such as when I'm writing a paper, is quite slow unless I have it planned in my head already.

I don't often toot my own horn but I'm quite proud of myself that I taught myself to type when I was a kid.

I only got 69 WPM, 343 Keystrokes, 64 correct words, and 0 wrong words.

Not terrible, but it's late at night, so I'd probably do better when I'm not tired. Plus, I used backspace a few times (it's habitual).

44 wpm. but I'm not good at the look at screen and type thing. If i know exactly what im gonna type i can usually out type everyone i meet. But give me a random set of words with no sentence structure or anything and I'm lost in typing.

The last typing test I did for the county was at night with me exhasted on a laptop keyboard so it was slower than it should have been but I type at 61 WPM because I am use to a regular keyboard with the 10 key system for numbers. Symbols I can do no problem but numbers if they aren't 10 key for some reason I can't do. I need to do a typing test when I'm fully awake and not exhausted. Also that was with no wrong words.

My elementary school had "Disney's Adventures in Typing with Timon & Pumbaa," first level was strangely fun. When you had to type words, not so much. I like to think that I learned typing through the hotkeys in videogames though, certainly help me learn where the WASD keys were, hah.

Managed to get up to

Visit the Typing Test [http://speedtest.10fastfingers.com] and try!
519 keystrokes
102 correct words

Obviously I don't normally type so fast when I'm doing a paper or writing a forum post though.

Also, there's just something about the sound a keyboard. Makes me feel professional.

*meh* Like a fair few, I was never actually taught or even told to use the 'home row' method. I'm generally quite quick regardless, though the faster I try to go (nearly 90-100wpm) the more errors I make (from 1-2epm to 3-5epm, and usually even more). My fingers (from the l-r) typically hover above left shift, a, w, d, j, i, l, # (on my netbook at least, which is what I'm using now...)

I'm somewhere between using my finger to press one button a time incredibly slowly and mastering the art of knowing where keys are without staring at my keyboard.
